Hello Maryna, thank you for your very fast response!
We are back now in Germany and here is my first quick response by email:
You answered all our questions very fast and we felt very comfortable with you and your company! This was our 4th visit of Australia and the next time we'll choose you once again when needing a 4WD, honestly!
We read many negative responses about your company in the internet and therefore we had some concerns, but you showed us that's not the truth! We believed in you and you didn't disappoint us - quite the contrary: we are very satisfied with you!
All equipment was more than sufficient: chairs, table, extra bed for our son, camp stove... we also saw that all this equipment was of very high quality! We didn't expect such a quality! The last two visits in Australia we got two times much less...
The car: WONDERFUL!!! Very comfortable! I'm now back in Germany and driving a new VW Passat - I wish I could change and drive your Land Cruiser again!
Although the car had 218.000km when taking over it felt like a new car. There weren't any faults, problems, issues with the car, it was absolutely reliable all the time.
Our highlight was the track to Memory cove in Port Lincoln National Park: a very rough 4WD track with steep climbing’s over rocks. When entering the park, we read: "19km - 1hour drive"... We needed 2 hours one way, knowing that the car is not ours... some guys we met really needed only one hour, it hurt me when I saw how the drove over the sharp stones and deep potholes... 🙁 OUCH!. Reaching the camp ground was more than wonderful: a kangaroo welcomed us, the coast was beautiful, and in the evening some dolphins swam nearby while jumping out of the water! Fascinating!
Thank you for your nice and perfect service and your reliable car!
Kind regards, Juergen Kreibich - Postbauer-Heng Bavaria / Germany
We can’t complain about anything. The customer service was outstanding and from booking to pick up to return everything went well. We would definitely book again via Australian 4WD Hire and recommend to rent a 4WD to explore the hidden gems of the Western Australia area.
Best regards, Miriam Mache – Hannover / Germany
Thank you, Maryna. We could not fault the vehicle or the service. We toured south eastern Western Australia.
We are looking to do the Gibb River Road with our west aussie mates next year so we will be in touch.
Best wishes, Greg Paramor – McMahon’s Point NSW / Australia
Me and my brother hired the car to go from Adelaide up to Darwin. We had a fantastic time! The car is great, everything you need is included and the 4WD gave us excess to nice off-road tracks and highlights we could not have done with a normal car. I can highly recommend this company for anyone who what’s to go out and explore Australia in a 4WD!
Kind regards and a good day, Mayane de Vaal – Den Haag / Netherlands
The entire process from the second we booked to returning our car was excellent customer service, quick responses and perfectly smooth from beginning to end. The security bond was super easy to manage and returned quickly as well. But the best part about it was the car itself. We had a bush camper large GT with EVERYTHING included that you could possibly need. We drove from Sydney to Broome and enjoyed every KM of the 8000 we did in this awesome car! Can't recommend them enough to explore Australia the way it’s meant to be done! Thankyou!
Kind regards, Stephen Lanfraco - Bondi Beach NSW/ Australia
Good customer service in pick-up and return. Great value. Rented vehicle in perfect working condition and well maintained. Includes contained but more than enough recovery kit for prudent and careful use of the car. Rented a Jeep Wrangler Sport and enjoyed it on Fraser Island. Will rent with them if I go back to QLD.
Kind regards, Ángel Linares García – Sydney NSW / Australia
Fantastic car for a fantastic trip. We had a very successful experience hiring through Australian 4WD Hire. The customer service was polite and efficient. We had to extend the booking twice and this was done quickly and easily. Other payments were fast and well-handled. We used the vehicle for a 12-day road trip around Western Australia including some light off-roading. The car handled everything with ease and style. The equipment inside the car was good, too. We received the same vehicle that we booked, and we were extremely happy with the quality of the car.
Very Best, Lucy Christopher PhD MA BCA – Monmouth / UK
Good morning Maryna, thanks for the email concerning the refund: already arrived.
This is my feedback concerning my experience with Australian 4WD Hire.
Rented a 4wd for my 25-day road trip.
Excellent customer service starting from the quotation to the pick-up and drop-off of the car.
Easy to get in touch even while you're travelling.
Bond back in 2 days after drop-off.
Excellent Toyota Prado: never had a problem during my 8,500 kms road trip
Equipment in perfect condition and very useful.
I can only recommend AUSTRALIAN 4WD HIRE.
Thanks for the service provided!
Kind regards, Leonardo Malucci – Maroubra NSW/Australia
Picked-up the car in Rothwell, personnel where very easy going and 100% correct from pick up to deliver the car back. Bond returned in 2 days. Toyota FJ Cruiser: 100% the car we wanted, did 8000Km including the Oodnadatta & Birdsville track and Mareenie loop. love to hire from you again in time.
Kind regards, Timo van Heerwaarden - Julianalaan Midlum/Netherlands
We’ve just had a great family holiday travelling down the south west coast with a brilliant 4WD from Australian 4WD hire. Everything has been handled professionally and friendly, from the quote to the return of the vehicle. EVERYTHING we needed was included and the benefits of hiring a 4WD whilst travelling Australia are plentiful. I will definitely be using these guys for any future travelling plans!
Kind regards, Chloe Allen – Meningie SA/Australia
Thank you very much. I have to say the whole experience was absolutely amazing. Your service from the start of my enquiry, getting the car at the pick-up point in Adelaide, the discussion and "inservice" given to me by Paul when I first arrived, the drive and the feel of the vehicle, as well as the return to Paul, can all only be described as seamless and impeccable. Congratulations on an excellent service. I will tell all my friends and will be using you again.
Kind regards, Diané Ranck – Seacliff SA/Australia
Perfect 4wd car well equipped with all needs! Brought Toyota Prado from Adelaide to Darwin, great cruiser. Rooftop, tent and fridge, makes it super easy to camp in remote areas. Proper off-road track tyres for 4wd-ing. Easy pick up and drop off with friendly and helpful staff.
Kind regards, Elmer Boll – Darlinghurst NSW/Australia
I planned a road trip with my dog Zephyr from Brisbane into the QLD outback. I picked up the Toyota Hilux with the roof top tent from Australian 4WD Hire in Rothwell. The guy I dealt with was very friendly and gave me a lot of his time. The car was a joy to drive on and off road, its a Hilux, you can't get much better! The rooftop tent was incredibly easy to set up and they supplied a table, chairs and a gas cooker. No issues throughout the whole trip and would happily use their services in the future.
Regards, Andrew Hedgman – Dakabin QLD / Australia
I recently hired a Jeep Wrangler from these guys on a trip over to Perth as a 4WD is a must if you really want to visit the most beautiful places in Australia. Besides it is handling amazingly off road and on beaches, it was an extremely nice car to drive inner city and to the more accessible tourist locations. It was clean and tidy from the beginning and their customer service and communication was great and quick to respond. Super happy with my hire! Payment was made easy via card and the bond processed on location. Nothing to fault here!
Regards, Jian Yen Wong – Moolap VIC / Australia
We had an amazing trip with our 4WD. Everything went without problems and we highly recommend Australian 4WD Hire. We had all the equipment we needed. The vehicle was great, performed well and the roof top tent was so easy to set up! We were 4 people in total and it was just perfect. They even gave us a tent to set up. Everything included, very glad we chose Australian 4WD Hire!
All the best & cheers, Janis Karkossa – Kiel / Germany
A great adventure with a great Jeep Wrangler 4WD. Friendly people at pick-up and drop-off locations. Perfect way to travel Australia! I would recommend everyone to rent a 4WD at Australian 4WD Hire.
Kind Regards, Wilhelmus Peters – Brunswick East VIC / Australia
Thank you so much for lending us the car it is just what we needed for our trip and you guys have been so lovely to deal with which made our holiday even better 🙂 I would definitely recommend you guys in the future 🙂
Regards, Clinton & Jess Brand – Mount Nasura WA / Australia
On a last-minute holiday, we were lucky enough to book a Toyota Prado with Australian 4WD Hire for 10 days of fun in South Australia. Paul, the local agent in Adelaide was super friendly and laid back which put as at ease right away, especially considering we had never been off-roading in a 4WD.
The vehicle was as described and included everything we needed for bush camping. Make sure to check the condition of everything before leaving the depot and speak up if you think something is not in great condition and make a note of it. We didn't need to, but things can wear out and break while out and about so better to be sure.
We took the 4WD on unsealed roads - nothing too extreme, mainly gravel/sand/small rocks etc. and it performed great. Again, as a first-time off roader - we felt comfortable the entire time and did not doubt the car once.
We will be hiring with A4WD again and we'd highly recommend them if you're are looking for exciting outback adventure!
Cheers, Adam Gonlag – Canterbury NSW / Australia
We had a great trip around the central WA back roads. The vehicle was great. Performed well, as did the supplied equipment. Even the roof top tent worked well. We were two guys and I was sceptical that the sleeping area would be a tad cosy, it wasn’t and in fact plenty of elbow room.
The pub building is the only remaining structure in the abandoned WA mining town of Big Bell. A 20-year mining boom from 1935. Broken Dreams! East of Cue. The only inhabitants now were snakes and Roo’s.
The London Bridge is in the Nature Reserve on the outskirts of Sandstone WA.
The art caste iron figurines - at least 20, planted out in the vast lake Ballard - just NW of Menzies.
“Why?”, one might ask. A great drive. Thanks guys.
Regards, Sam Wulff – Tauranga / New Zealand
Thank you so much for you are awesome service and great car! Had a ball with my sister visiting and you guys helping me book and pay bond on their behalf has made it so much easier for us! 5* aus4wd!
Regards, Holly Morrells and Brian Fendt – Rayleigh / UK
This is a belated thank you. The car was perfect, and service was great. I would very happily book with you again.
Regards, Lesley Sutton – Balmain East / NSW Australia
We had a beautiful adventure camping with our 2 kids (6 and 10 years old) with the Hilux in the national parks around southern Victoria. The gear was very practical and well maintained and the car was very well serviced.
The company staff was very friendly and helpful. We got our bond back fast without any problems. The contract was a bit difficult to understand with all the legal jargon but for the rest we were very satisfied.
Thanks again for a wonderful service, Serge & Sonja Stalpers – Wageningen / Netherlands

Thanks for the prompt refund. We have thoroughly enjoyed the trip, thanks for the great car.
The LC was a great tow truck. We did not go off road however towing a large heavy camper on roads was a breeze.
Regards, Andrei Svetski – Carlton / VIC Australia
1.) Customer service was fabulous from start to finish.
2.) Bond was refunded within the timeframe they agreed to.
3.) Vehicle was reliable, clean and with low KM's.
4.) A once in a lifetime trip from ADL-PER and we will book with AU 4x4 again for the Coral Coast this year.
Thanks to the whole team Jon Fulluck – Sydney NSW / Australia
Having arrived in WA with no idea what was in store, as soon as we entered the A4WD office we were made to feel at ease. An abundance of information and detailed walk through of the vehicles made us feel at ease right away.
It set the tone for our adventure in these new and well-maintained off-road vehicles and it proved to be an amazing experience for our family whilst on the road.
On return we did make a couple of superficial dents to the vehicles and we happily used our bond to ensure the damage was fixed for the next clients. These things can happen when on the road and so we budgeted for it accordingly.
These trucks are so well equipped, but it pays to check over all the equipment to make sure you have everything you need for this trip.
All in all, we had an amazing experience travelling from Perth to Albany in these luxurious off-road vehicles 😀
Warmest Regards Richard Taylor – Hawick / UK
Service was excellent, fast and with no complications. (Perfect in my opinion)
The gear worked fine there was everything I needed.
Adding a cooler for ice and instruction for the tents would have been the perfect equipment.
But figuring out how to put up the tent was just one of those puzzles that makes camping fun!
I guess between cooler or Engel I’ll choose always and Engel.
Car worked perfectly, not a single problem.
The equipment and car made, what was going to be an awesome vacation, an unforgettable trip for the rest of my life, hopefully the first of many in Australia! Hope you get discounts for good returning clients!
Regards, Ricardo Olivieri – Gardone Val Trompia BS / Italy
Tony is a great guy, outstanding service and great at providing tips and guidance regarding the vehicle.
Regards, David and Patricia Betancourt – Sydney NSW / Australia
Thanks again for your excellent customer service! The Prado I rented from you over the last ten days was in perfect condition and it was a pleasure to drive. As you promised, all the equipment - truck, tent, refrigerator and camp gear was spotless. My daughter and I had a great trip which was due in large part to your Australian 4WD Hire team. I will definitely be renting from you again.
Kind Regards, Judd Bogust – Nedlands WA / Australia
After a lot of comparing all available 4wd Rentals in Australia, I decided to go for Australian4WDHire.
If you are looking for well-maintained 4WDs, with quality equipment, an excellent support and a reliable team of service professionals: Australian4WDHire is your choice.
After several off-road trips in Namibia and Botswana, it was time to explore what Australia had to offer.
We did a 9-day trip: up to Coral Bay and from there off-road along the coast towards Yardie Creek thru Cape Range National Park and return the same way. It was not much time, but we wanted to get a first impression of Western Australia off road. Terrain included beach driving, boggy sand and some rocky sections.
Our Toyota Hilux was in mint condition: latest model, low mileage, clean, with a well-maintained engine bay, interior and underbody in great condition and lots of quality equipment ranging from TJM, General Grabber Tires to Engel and Coleman. And even during our trip no issues whatsoever occurred; the team really kept their promises. Speaking of the team: they did a fine job.
From first contact to the end of our journey Jake and his Team, with Amber and Maryna, were very supportive and patient. I always felt well informed, with quick respond times and a very ingenious service.
We had quite some changes in travel plans; and yet the whole team always kept patient and friendly and was really willing to deliver the right ideas. That was service at its best!
During the whole process we never had any issues with our payments: all rates were deducted correctly, and our deposit was returned within 48hrs after our vehicle return.
Again: if you are looking for a proper 4WD Rental Company, that knows their business, if you are willing to read terms and conditions thoroughly -and obviously are willing to stick to them-, if you know what off road driving means and you know how to apply the rules of common sense and if you are in search for a great time Down Under: go for Australian4WDHire.
Thanks for an awesome time, guys! I will come back to Australia and for sure will let you know then!
Regards from Germany – Benedict Laier – Bad Nauheim / Germany
Now that our holiday in Australia has finally ended, I may say that our decision to rent a 4WD car from Australian 4WD Hire was a good one. I absolutely would choose this company again.
We hired the car in Alice Springs to drive via the West Macdonell ranges, Kings Canyon, Ayers Rock, Oodnadatta track and Arkaroola to Adelaide. We visited Palm Valley and did one excursion in Arkaroola where we really needed the 4WD and high clearance capacity.
We planned our trip from end of November till middle of December 2018. So, when we first asked for a quotation without questioning from our side, we directly got a reduced offer because we rented the car at the end of the season and they didn't calculate a one-way fee. That was a fine start for us.
The communication before we finally took over the car was very clear and informative, and they were really sitting on top of things to prevent any surprises.
Due to language problems still one surprise occurred: unlike usual car renting agencies they asked for a security bond which is not - as we wrongly assumed in the beginning - a reservation on your credit card but an EFT of the total sum to them. So be aware that you have this sum available in real money!
After delivering the car back in Adelaide they were very fast to transfer the total amount back to us. So, in total this procedure was unusual for us but is still working fine.
Different to other car companies they explicitly state that you may use the car more or less on any road that is mentioned on the Hema-map without all the exclusions that other car companies state (which seems to be more or less any gravel road that matters).
That gave us a lot of trust in that they believe in their cars and that their cars are suitable for their purposes. That was very important for us because at the end of the season with its already high temperatures you don't want to have a break down when even on the well-known Oodnadatta track no other car was coming along all day.
For us it was the first time to drive on off-road roads and we had to learn ourselves what is possible. With real 4WD, low range gear and hill down function we finally concluded that the car is able to do much more than we dared to do. A very relaxing thought. Especially the low range function is very important but is seemingly often disabled by other car companies as we heard.
Just before we took over the car (4WD Bush Camper Medium RTT) in Alice Springs we got the message that the rented car was not available due to an incident that had occurred earlier with it. Instead we got the bigger one (4WD Bush Camper Large RTT) for the same rate. From what we heard this was even the better choice if you want to go on an adventure, so we didn't mind 😉
The introduction to the car was short and we were glad we had read the information for off-road driving on their home page earlier and watched the video ´How to set up your rooftop tent´ on YouTube.
We didn't check if everything is in the emergency package which - looking back - was a fault of us because the shovel was missing. We didn't plan to drive through sand, so it didn't matter after all, but still. We encountered this just when we delivered back the car. That late it is not possible to claim that the shovel was not in the package from the beginning on, obviously.
Still the company did not make us pay for it! In total we had a very fine holiday. Everything worked out and, again, we were glad to have chosen Australian 4WD Hire. We would do so again especially for a more serious off-road adventure the next time.
With kind regards, Ellen & Heiko Teuber – Utrecht / Netherlands
Hi all and happy new year, security bond received many thanks.
We had a great time over the Christmas break all made better with the 4x4 supplied by yourselves as this enabled us to push our adventure further.
We spent our time around Port Stephens exploring remote beaches and the sand dunes of Shackleton beach.
See enclosed pictures. We would happily rent again.
Kind regards, Gary and Steph Gray – Bronte NSW / Australia
I had a great time with this vehicle. It was just the perfect solution to visit Australia. The car was very easy to drive and in a very good condition. The roof tent was just perfect for sleeping and watch wild kangaroo 🙂
Kind Regards, Cyril Tintori and Isabelle Fabre – Nice / France
My experience with this company was good. I hired a Toyota Hilux for two months to travel from north Australia to south west Australia. The car was great (good condition, clean and what I expected and needed for the trip) and pick-up and drop-off went smoothly. The camping gear that came with the car was also of good quality. I really appreciated the tire pressure pump included in the recovery kit as I understand those are not always included by other companies. Finally, when I encountered two minor issues with the car the company's response was quick and helpful.
Kind Regards, Iris Pauw – Amsterdam / Netherland
We had a great time in the outback, driving the 4WD RTT Camper along the Oodnadatta track. Pick up in Adelaide and drop off in Alice Springs were smooth and quick. The rooftop tent and the awnings were very functional and easy to open and close. Security bond was released without a fuss within a few hours of handing over the vehicle.
Thanks, Kamal Sanmugarasa – Northmead NSW / Australia
Near new vehicle with almost everything that one need for camping. Agent in Perth was friendly and helpful, everything was explained. We didn’t have any troubles following the T&Cs which we found were reasonable, bond was refunded the next day. Recommended!
Kind Regards, Sam White – Upper Coomera QLD / Australia
Just wanted to say thank you for providing reliable Hilux Camper RTT.
Complimentary camping gear was very handy.
We had a fantastic holiday on the West Coast.
Great service, great people, highly recommend!
MFG, Max Schoenfelder – Fulda / Germany
I booked a car to pick up in Cairns, use around lower Cape York and then drive back to Brisbane. The communications with the company were always very prompt, polite and friendly. The agents in Cairns were great and spent time going over everything with the car including tailoring the camping gear for the number of people we had and explaining how to use and setup the tents. The car was in good condition, was comfortable and the fridge was a great bonus. The agents in Brisbane were also friendly and the return was easy. Australian 4WD Hire seem to be one of only a few companies that allow people to go to remote outback locations and as such they have very extensive terms and conditions to cover usage of their vehicles. Make sure you read and understand them. I had questions and they answered them clearly and straight away. The bond was a payment up front to cover insurance excess but was returned within 2 days of returning the car and I had my bond paid back in full. I haven't dealt with the company before, have no prior association with them and I run a small IT consultancy in northern NSW. My dealing with Australian 4WD Hire was very professional and polite. They were easy to deal with and I would happily do business with them again.
Kind Regards, Michael Stephan – Cook Town QLD / Australia
Three of us travelled for 12 days around Karijini, Hamersley, Millstream / Chichester, Marble Bar, Nullagine and Karratha in the Bush Camper Large RTT. Very easy to drive vehicle with good diesel economy and spacious interior.
Some points from our trip to ponder for yours...
AUST 4WD HIRE Very responsive and quick with replies to questions. A couple of camping pieces could be upgraded but no real impact on the holiday. Very quick return of the bond - appreciated.
THE VEHICLE & KIT Always check the camping equipment thoroughly and have tape ready for any tent tears, critters get in if given the slightest chance. Ensure you can reach all the required zips and pulleys etc on a roof top tent. I'm short so it meant a lot of scrambling. For cooking we took a small primus/stove to do a brew while on the road. The provided cooker is excellent and quick once set up but sometimes you can't be bothered setting up the full unit for a cup of tea. The Fuel gauge takes a while to get moving when full, don't get alarmed if it suddenly starts moving, unless you're on the second tank in which case, think about filling up.
Cheers Aust 4WD - We had a great trip.
Chris McLoughlin – Perth WA / Australia
Great car, friendly people, good service.
All communication with 4wd administration went over email, they were always correct and very quick to answer. At pick-up and drop-off everyone was very friendly. We had a big Toyota 4x4 which was great to drive and had everything you would expect.
Regards, Stijn Waegemans – Wilrijk / Belgium
We had a very pleasant experience, head office crew was the most attentive and ready to answer all of our questions before, during and after hire.
Supplying lots of pictures and links that made our preparation for the whole trip much easier. Agent in Perth was helpful and had a great knowledge about the area.
The whole camping style travel was new to us, but we have really enjoyed it mostly because we were provided almost with everything that we needed for the trip.
Coming from overseas you cannot ask for a better package. Thank you!
Best Regards, Alexander Voit – Schweinfurt / Germany
Recently hired a Prado for a month to drive up the west coast of Perth. The vehicle was as new with a great roof top set up and fridge which came in very handy. Excellent service and help and zero issues on returning the vehicle despite some recent negative media which I think is very unfair based on our experience. Their pricing was also very competitive compared to other operators. Highly Recommend.Regards, Peter Hooymans – Hawthorn VIC / Australia
We are return customers of Australian 4wd Hire, as we like to get off the beaten tourist track and into the more remote parts of the country. We found booking and any question we had were handled quickly and efficiently. As was the bond repayment. Having most of the camping gear included is great for us coming from NZ. The pickup and drop off was also fast and efficient although there is quite a lot of reading to do. Thanks to the team. Thanks Andrew Fraser – Whangarei / New Zealand
We hired an RTT vehicle for the trip Darwin to Adelaide, it was in perfect conditions and all the employees from Australian 4WD Hire were helpful and professional. We got the security bond back in 24h, to recommend!Cheers, Fabio Isa – Alexandria NSW / Australia
We drove over 4000km and used hired equipment during the trip from Darwin to Adelaide. Me and my travel mates are extremely satisfied with the vehicle we have got and service we have been provided in. Since the very beginning communication with Australian 4wd team was very easy and precise. We got all details and useful information in advance. The car was well maintained, equipped with high quality camping stuff, much better than expected. Bond/security is being refunded to us with no issues. The vehicle we had was with ground tent and exactly what we needed while our trip thru Australian Outback. Customer service and quality definitely above expectation!!! Highly recommended.Have a good day, Ania Szczecinska – Maroubra NSW / Australia
I must say that all people at the pickup and drop-off were very serious and correct. There was absolutely no problem with the timetable we had determined. The car was well prepared, ready to go. We got even an upgrade, a larger car because there was a problem with the car we wanted to hire, without having to pay a supplement. On the Hwy and in the outback the Toyota Prado 4WD gave full satisfaction.Kind Regards, Theo Thiry – Echternach / Luxemburg
Thank you very much for your services and arranging / professional attitude; I will most certainly use your vehicle again next year.Kind Regards, Marcus Jamieson – La Gaulette / Mauritius
Any queries I had with Australian 4WD Hire were answered promptly and in full. Pickup and drop off were smooth, with the guys at both Darwin and Melbourne being really helpful and clear on the equipment and vehicle. Bond and fuel were both refunded in full quicker than expected.Kind Regards, Luke Shepherd – One Jervois / Singapore
The car did everything we asked of it and more. We really tested it out over our almost 2-week trip, bring it on sand dunes, off roading and camping. The tent was really easy to set up, so much so that someone could do it on their own so having more than 1 person made it a breeze. The cooler in the back kept everything ice cold, which is vital to stay hydrated in the Australian sun. Overall, the car is amazing! Thanks, Rob Stamm – New York / USA
Customer Service was fast at responding back. Bond was handled in the time frame stated in their contract Vehicle was what I expected when booking.Regards, Michael Pham – California / USA
We hired a Bush Camper Canopy RTT (Toyota Hilux) from the Adelaide depot for our 17-day outback adventure. After a quick and efficient explanation, we took off towards Flinders Range.
Having a roof top tent, it made it very easy to quickly setup up camp and start enjoying the views and star filled sky at Wilpena Pound and Brachina East Camp ground. While preparing our meal using the provided stove (it has two pits that were sufficient for us) we encountered the first wild life (emus, kangaroos, lizards, lots of birds) who passed by. We continued our trip to Marla, driving the rough, remote, 1000 km long, corrugated Oodnadatta track for 3 days. When leaving the Flinders, the landscape changes from steep cliffs towards flat dessert planes. An amazing experience in such a harsh environment. As the car has a strong engine and robust suspension, this made the 3 days more comfortable, especially on the corrugated sections. Definitely worth driving up here. One of stops, Coward Springs, is worth mentioning here, as it has a hot spa!
From Marla we drove up North towards the West McDonell National Park. On our way north, we stopped to setup camp at Rainbow Valley Conservation Reserve. From the camp we had beautiful views on the rock formations, especially during sunset. As it is so remote, at night the stars and the Milky Way were perfectly visible. Truly astonishing.
With a short stop at Alice Springs to get some groceries, we took off to visit the West McDonell. We decided to setup camp off-road on a dried river bed, close to Boggy Hole Bore, which was gazzeted in the provided HEMA maps. This was the first time we had to use the 4WD to its full extend. The car did an excellent job in dealing with this rough terrain.
The day after, we headed down south to Palm Valley, which is a special area were unique palm trees are growing. On our way we stopped at some gorges in the West McDonell to go for a swim. Once we left the main road to drive to Palm Valley, we noticed that this is a road for 4WD only. Especially the last kilometres are very rough, with steep climbs and deep dips. Again, the car had no problems dealing with this terrain and took us to this amazing place. One of our last stops in the Northern Territory, next to Kings Canyon, was Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park to visit Uluru (Ayers rock) and Kata-Tjuta (the Olgas) which are easily accessible. Truly amazing places in such a remote area. In the last days we drove back the car to Adelaide, stopping over at Desert Oaks Resort, Oasis Park Coober Pedy and Melrose Caravan Park. Especially the later was very good as it the edge of a national park with good walks. This was the place where we could recap the great adventure we had so far.
Looking back, we had an amazing time in such a diverse, remote and harsh environment. Thanks to the excellent an robust car, tent (we experienced strong winds during the night and the tent was super strong and didn`t break) and gear (robust 40L fridge, 20L fuel canister, 20L water canister, 2 outdoor chairs and table, gasstove, recovery kit) we had a worry free trip of our life and look back to an amazing adventure. Worth to mention is that we prepared our own meals 90% of the time and the stove worked perfectly. We also downloaded a digital version of Hema Maps which we are good to have next to the paper version that is provided by the company.
Looking back, we highly recommend Australian 4WD hire as they provided us with the tools (car and gear) that enabled us to make this trip.
I just wanted to thank Australian 4WD Hire. We had a great trip from Cairns to the tip it was definitely a bucket list trip for us. Peter was awesome he gave us a lot of helpful tips before we left and put our minds at ease in regard to all the terms and conditions. I have attached a few pics of our trip.Kind Regards, Ben Smith – Highbury SA / Australia
I was very satisfied with Australian 4wd Hire. My pre-hire dealings were very efficient and detailed. The car pick-up and drop off was also very efficient and well handled. The vehicle was perfect for my family trip to Fraser Island. My full bond was returned within 2 days of returning the car. We played by the company's rules and had no problems when we returned the car. I will gladly use them again.Regards, David Willmott –Prahran VIC / Australia
The Toyota Hilux was great, It was so reliable and easy to get used to, I actually miss it now. All camping equipment was great too and pretty easy to set up. I would like to thank your team for great service! I'll definitely remember you next time we travel.Kind regards and wishing you all the best! – Tereza Sancova– Perth WA / Australia
Thank you for that, was a really awesome experience with Australian 4WD hire. I would definitely recommend and will use in the future.Great equipment and great service.Kind Regards, Greg Capek– Montmorency VIC / Australia
Great customer service! - The FJ Cruiser we hired had it all. Just needed our clothes, sleeping bags and fill the Engel fridge with food. The vehicle was totally reliable and the equipment all in good nik. The duel battery ran the fridge for 3 days without us having started the car to recharge. Awesome. The Engel fridge is a great thing and considering getting one after having used it for 2 weeks around the outback. Thanks guys for the positive service experience.Kind Regards, Peter Rechner– Coburg VIC / Australia
We rented a Toyota Prado 4WD from Australia 4WD Hire, equipped with camping equipment (tents, stretchers, chairs, table, fridge, water container, stove, recovery kit, first aid kit, light & a roof basket bag). The car was well suited to comfortably seat our family of 2 adults and 3 kids. The booking procedure was very easy, followed by prompt replies to all questions prior to departure – thank you to Maryna and Amber! The team at the Alice Springs office were very friendly and helpful in facilitating a quick handover and drop off the car. We received our deposit back within 24 hours of returning home. All the equipment supplied was fit for purpose. The tents were easy to use and robust, easily weathering a few hectic thunderstorms. We did an online order at the Alice Springs Woolworths and the local butcher, so had a quick stop at the shops to collect and pack these items (the Engel fridge was super handy!!!!! especially to cool the end of the day beer/wine) before heading off on our Central Australia journey. Australian 4WD Hire – your 4WD took us on an amazing family holiday – highly recommended. Thank you.Kind Regards, Angie & David McNeil – Dee Why NSW / Australia
We recently hired an Australian 4WD Hilux for a 7-day camping trip from Alice via the Larapinta drive down to Palm Valley, Watarkka National Park, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and back to Alice Spring. Australian 4WD were great to deal with the whole way through, rates were reasonable and there were absolutely no extra fees for driving on 4 wd roads etc. The camping equipment had a bit of wear and tear but that's fine because you don't feel like you have to keep it pristine. The Hilux was in great condition and drove really well. I would definitely recommend this company. Thanks to all the very amenable and professional staff.Regards, Melanie Morrison and Max Vechi– Sydney NSW / Australia
Very professional all the way from pick up in Perth. The vehicle was like new and pick up and drop off was super-fast - couldn’t be happier. Highly recommend these guys as they include essential camping gear and a ripper Engel fridge to keep your travelers chilled and I also took a look under the bonnet and was very pleased to notice a proper 2nd and duel battery setup. Excellent all round.Regards, Peter Hooymans– Hawthorn VIC / Australia
Just to let you know that I was very satisfied with the hire of the 4wd and our holiday to Fraser Island. All the communication between myself and your company was very efficient and detailed. The car pick-up and drop off went smoothly and all the equipment supplied was exactly what we needed and in good condition. I would certainly use your company again for my next trip to Fraser Island.Regards, David Willmott – Prahran VIC / Australia
Picked up the car in Broome and drove to Perth over two weeks via Karijini NP and Coral Coast in July. Great value deal, the car was in good order, camping equipment appropriate and the customer service was good and helpful. The bond was big and I was a bit nervous after reading some negative reviews however, if you read the agreement (it’s all there in black and white) and treat the car like it’s your own, you can’t go wrong.Regards, Brenton Aird– Kalamunda WA / Australia
Hello Maryna, Thank you for the email about the security bond. We have a great experience with Australian 4WD hire. The commercial was very helpful and quickly answer to our question / email. We have been upgraded on the car with a bigger one. All the equipment list on the website were conform to what we expect. The only thing that bother us was the thickness of the mat. We have bought some additional layer because there was a bar in the middle of the mat for the mechanism in order to unfold the tent. After that it was pretty comfy and there are a lot of space in the tent. At the pickup station, everything is explained, and you are doing a review of everything that is in the car. The car was in good shape, with a lot space. Australian Hire 4wd company was helpful and do answer to our questions. If I go back to Australia later, I would definitely rent my 4wd again with them. You will find in attachment a picture of the 4WD in the desert near a dry Salt Lake.Regards, Jeremy Hiu – Seine / France
We had a great trip and were all 5 very comfortable in the vehicle. It was excellent to have the camping gear included. The tents were lovely canvas, a good size for 2 people, and great to be able to stand up inside.Kind Regards, Katrina Railton– Adelaide River NT / Australia
Hi Maryna, Thanks to you, and Jake, for the quick response. I really appreciate it. Overall, we are happy with the experiences we have had to date with Australian 4 WD Hire. I am impressed with your quick reply to my concerns and will continue to use your business in the future. I have also been recommending you to other travelers and friends and will continue to do so.Sincerely, Grant Ducat – Cudgen NSW / Australia
Customer service was really attentive and helpful. We'd read a few negative reviews, but no jokes, these guys were straight down the line. There are some rules that you need to follow, like obeying the speed limit, not driving in the dark outside of built-up areas, and not driving in heavy rain. We stuck to those and there were no problems. I believe it's the only 4WD camper hire that actually allows you to go off-road (which we did!), so if you play by their reasonable rules, you can have some real fun. The price was also significantly better than other providers. It would have been great to be able to hire bedding off them or a local laundry, as we did have to go out and buy these, and did choose to bring some from home too, which filled our bags. But they do offer crockery and cookware hire. The tent was in reasonable nick, only a few things, like one zipper not doing up properly, but all in all, it was an easy set up and comfortable rig. Everything was as we had ordered. There was one sound coming from the engine on the first day — they asked that we take it to the local mechanic, who couldn't replicate the fault, and it was totally fine after that anyway. But the team was really helpful throughout that process and nothing was a worry. Our bond was returned in full in I think about three days. Would definitely use Australian 4WD Hire again, and recommend them. 🙂Kind Regards, Matt and Isobel Bedford– North Coburg VIC / Australia
As a Western Australian who loves 4wding, camping and fishing, I regularly get out in my own vehicle on the west coast, but have found it too hard to get over and explore the east coast due to the distance and lengthy holiday I’d need to get there. Australian 4wd Hire gave me the option to take one week off from work to fly over and spend the entire week exploring the Fraser coast in Qld. The vehicle was immaculate, never missed a beat and unlike a lot of other hire companies was actually allowed to go off-road. The camping gear you provided had everything I needed for a week’s camping and my son and I had a blast! Would definitely recommend this as an option for people wanting a 4wding and camping holiday without days of driving to get to the starting point.Regards, Andrew Russell– Port Hedland WA / Australia
Hi Maryna, Thank you very much for the prompt refund of the security bond. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Kimberley in the Toyota Prado that we hired from you. Our time there was too short, and we plan to return in about two years for a much longer stay; and yes, we would not hesitate to hire one of your vehicles again as it was very well set up and maintained. The camping gear that you provided was all highly fit for purpose and in very good condition. The detailed briefing that your agents in Broome did upon collection was highly professional and they should be commended. Attached is a photo of your Prado at a roadside stop as we admired some of the breath-taking scenery along the Gibb River Road. Also attached is a photo looking out of the Cathedral Gorge in Purnululu National Park. It is an example of the beautiful country we got to with the aid of your excellent 4WD.Yours in appreciation, Durham and Vicki Prewett– Congupna VIC / Australia
We found Australian 4WD customer service excellent from pick up at Broome and especially drop off in Perth. Very friendly and helpful and even dropped us at the train station for the 30-minute return trip back to Perth. The vehicle was the exactly what we booked and lived up to our expectations. We found the vehicle to be a great choice for us. We wanted to go little off road and explore WA and it was perfect. We stayed at some camp sites with limited amenities. We were able to pop the tent up in a couple of steps, it was perfect.Kind RegardsDanny Boon – Dodges Ferry TAS / Australia
Drove from Darwin to Broome over the course of 2 weeks. Amber was super helpful and answered all my questions. The bond is a little hefty, I paid 5k - however understandable given the risks (the vehicles are new and expensive, with setup the cheaper models like Hilux probably cost around 60k+ camping gear) Got it all back of course because in the outback it’s ALWAYS a better safe than sorry situation.Thank you so much Ray Benjamin – Taylors Lakes VIC / Australia
Picked up the Prado with roof top tent in Broome, the guys in Broome were great and easy to deal with. Initially we headed up to Cape Leveque then headed south to Perth over the next 30 or so days. Mainly hugged the coast with a couple of inland excursions. The Prado was comfortable, and all the gear worked well, including the rooftop tent which we enjoyed. Drop-off in Perth was straight forward, once again the guys were great, and received our deposit back a couple of days later.Regards Darryl & Dianne Rhodes – Geelong VIC / Australia
Really simple pick up and drop off. The bond was back in my account within 24 hours of drop off as well as the petrol reimbursement. Really smooth drive in the v8 cruiser down the highway from Brisbane to Sydney. Would definitely do it again.Thank you so much James Niven – Margate QLD / Australia
Australian 4WD Hire made our whirlwind trip around Alice and the Rock a dream. Booking was easy and a slight change to our plans was easily accommodated by the attentive booking staff. We touched down in Alice and were very pleasantly surprised at the standard of the vehicle and the camping gear we were presented with. Staff at the depot were friendly and helpful. The vehicle and the gear performed without a hitch, the return process was a trouble-free as the collection, and then the return of the security deposit was actioned within a day. We would certainly recommend them and will certainly use you again. Thanks! Tony and Kylie Wallis – East Toowoomba QLD / Australia
Hello Maryna and people from Australia 4WD Hire / Hello Peter Bailey, We received the refund of the secutity bond. Thank you very much. Also we’d like to thank you for the very professional mode of operation 4WD Hire worked with us. The car was in good condition, the equitment was complete. We did not have any problem. The service was very best in time before pick up the car for Information and immediately replays for every question. Drop off the car, we’ve had a very warm wellcome and a complaisant and professional phaseout in Cairns 4WD Hire. Please tell our regards to Peter Bailey. It was a pleasure to work with him. We will recoment 4WD Hire and will come again.Best Regards Stephan and Karin von Molitor – Heilbronn, Baden-Wuerttemberg / Germany
Thanks Maryna, Every interaction and every person that I dealt with in relation to hiring from Aust 4wd Hire was of the highest quality and always friendly, warm and most helpful. In addition, the vehicle and equipment was as-new. We will be hiring again, that’s for sure. Many thanks Peter Quinlivan – Glen Iris VIC / Australia
We have done a trip from Darwin to Brisbane including the outback and the Rainforest in Cape York (most northern point was Cooktown). The Toyota did very well – no technical problems on the 7500km trip! The camping gear especially the chairs were very comfortable. The rooftop tent was ideal for the trip, much better than a ground tent, because it is much faster and easier to setup and dismantle. The E-Mail communication with 4wd hire is very good. Thank you 4wd hire!Best Regards, Thorsten Bretschneider – Maxsain / Germany
Thank you so much for being prompt with the security bond money return. We had such an amazing time on our trip and would use you again and recommend you to friends.Regards Ben Bamford – Tolga QLD / Australia
I had Australian 4WD Hire Jeep Wrangler for 12 days driving from Darwin to Adelaide and enjoyed it to the full extent. The vehicle itself was in very good condition, and their customer support was exclusively prompt and of the highest standard. What could be better for a nice holiday trip?!Cheers Sergii Arykov – Wellington / New Zealand
Very happy with the level of service provided by the Darwin agent, particularly Brett. Vehicle travelled well. Security deposit refund was actioned promptly. We would certainly use this company again for future 4WD vehicle hire.Joan and Terry Meredith – Darwin NT / Australia
My partner and I decided on a last minute trip to Alice Springs and were tossing up between hiring a 4WD or just sticking to our sedan. We are VERY happy with our choice to hire a 4WD from Australian 4WD Hire. It allowed us access to what turned out to be our favorite places along the MacDonnell Ranges. Loved every second, 4WD was clean, powerful and comfortable, camping gear was clean and easy to set up, customer service was A+. Car was as described, perfect communication, bond was back within 24 hours of rental return. We look forward to hiring from Australian 4WD Hire again on our next trip. Now off to start planning! Thanks Alexander Smith – Beechworth VIC / Australia
Great Jeep to explore some of the areas of Kakadu that are only accessible via 4WD. All comms and financial transactions with the company were great The additional items loaned to us were great - especially the esky which was a life saverThanks Gavin Basserabie – Clovelly NSW / Australia
5 weeks Darwin return via Kakadu, Gibb River Road, Derby, Bungles, Katherine Gorge, Butterfly Creek, Litchfield, Mary River.
August 17th to September 20. Missed the crowds but got the heat but that was a good trade-off for us.
After reading comments and others on Australian 4WD Hire we did more digging and were happy to book with them.
All instances of problems seem to stem from people not reading the terms of hire and/or deliberately breaking the terms of their rental agreement.
The company’s website has all the conditions spelled out if you take the trouble to read them.
It is also clear that you will be GPS monitored.
What people complain about is that the company actually enforces these conditions quite rigorously at times.
Remember they are entrusting you with machinery and equipment worth many tens of thousands and unnecessary wear and tear cost them and indirectly other renters money.
Also broken gear leads to downtime and unavailability for subsequent rentals.
1- their website is excellent
2- communication was clear and prompt (10 min often)
3- the vehicle was new (14k km)
4- vehicle was totally fit for purpose
5- camping gear was easy to use and good quality
6- check-in and briefing were friendly and helpful
7- return was quick and painless
8- full bond refund made within 2 days
9- rates were very competitive
We had a terrific time up in the Cape. Our vehicle performed without a hitch. It was reliable and fuel efficient. The roof top tent was comfy. I think we are hooked and are going home to look at 4WD’s now. Thanks Australian 4WD hire for enabling us to have a one in a lifetime experience.Kind Regards Cheryl and Kevin Cullen – Newport NSW / Australia
We've had an excellent holiday with the vehicle and thanks to the efficient and friendly services provided. In particular, the quick response to our enquiry about a warning light appearing on the dashboard. Thanks and Regards Angela Chow – Kingston ACT / Australia
Great!! Thank you so much. This has been the best car hire company we have used. Everything was so easy. The car was amazing!! And the camping gear was fantastic. We will definitely use you guys again. Thanks Jacqui Sim – Gosford NSW / Australia
4WD Touring Bliss. What more could you ask for? The vehicle was a fresh recent model, fully decked out with all the gear you might require while exploring the great outdoors! Everything was well stocked and serviceable and in ready to use condition. I did about 2500km without missing a beat and with comfort and confidence. All staff were friendly and helpful and communicated promptly to every issue.Kind Regards Doug McCullough – Blacktown NSW / Australia
29 days of pure bliss 4wd’g to Cape York. Highly recommend Australian 4WD Hire. This company enabled me to join friends and family on the trip of a lifetime that I would have missed out on as I don’t have my own 4wd. The car performed great. The collection and drop off were very easy. The camping gear and all equipment were not cheap and nasty brands, and they held up very well in the month we put them under their test. For us this was a great cost effective option as opposed to trying buy all our own gear and an actual car just to go for a holiday. Great job Australian 4WD Hire. Thanks for the ability to do this trip.Cheers again, until next time! Sean Sierakowski – Berwick VIC / Australia
The truck we got from Australian 4WD Hire was awesome! They provided everything you could possibly need to go camping on the Gibb River Road. They were extremely responsive over email and phone organizing the trip. The bond was returned immediately. The car got us through every gnarly road you can think of!Kind Regards Danielle Malcolm and Kyle Wolsky – Fairy Meadow NSW / Australia
Australian 4WD provided great service, clear and thorough communication, a high quality vehicle and prompt return of bond. Their customer service at Cairns was commendable also. Many Thanks Ken and Murray Ogilvie – Wauchope NSW / Australia
Recently hired a vehicle from Australian 4WD hire, for a work trip from Perth to Meekatharra. Vehicle was basically new, very well maintained. All equipment supplied was in perfect condition - the only Company that we could find that supplied a turn key solution for remote camping. Will be using again. Very satisfied.Regards Scott Dodd – Surfers Paradise QLD / Australia
My boyfriend and I were planning a camping trip to the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation and needed a 4x4 hire. After doing some research we decided that Australian 4WD Hire was the best choice. We grabbed a 4WD Toyota Prado with a rooftop tent and all the camping, recovery and safety gear you could possibly need. The vehicle was clean and did everything we needed it to do. The customer service from people we have dealt with at Australian 4WD Hire was very professional and helpful. The trip went perfectly to plan and the car ran beautifully. Also, our security bond was returned to us within the first full business day of returning the vehicle. Overall, an excellent experience. I would highly recommend Australian 4WD and look forward to using them for our next adventure!!Regards Alli Ficarra – Clareville NSW / Australia
We have an amazing experience in The Red Way Centre Australia, our rent with Australian 4WD Hire give us the freedom to do all we wanted in our trip. All the equipment is perfect for a outback adventure, even for new adventurers, so easy to do all the process from renting the car to the set up for the camping, all the people that answer our online inquiries were very helpful. For our next trip to The Great Australia for sure we will use this company again.Regards William Gonzalez - Midlevel’s / Hong Kong
Our experience with Australian 4WD Hire for fantastic right from the start with our pickup. The Toyota Hilux was terrific so much so that quite a few campers approached us to enquire how we felt about the company and pointed out how good the Hilux looked with its suspension and all the fantastic extra's we got with it. My hubby was so impressed by how everything worked so well especially the awning off the vehicle. He had some bad experiences with the ones at work and was so happy when it was so easy to set up.One of the differences that some might be turned off was that a few bits and pieces weren't included like the plates, cutlery etc. But really, we just went to K-Mart and picked everything up we needed for under $50 (we had to go to the supermarket anyway for our food) or you can purchase from A4WD if you are time pore. We packed some old bedding from home so we didn't need to purchase that.We opted for the $5000 security deposit which was promptly returned within the week of us returning. You need to clean the car and everything but itwasn't hard at all as we just went to the local car wash $20. We also stuck to the rules that are given out so we ensured that we would get our deposit back. We will be back in touch in a couple of years to continue down the west coast of WA.Regards Neil and Deirdre Kearney - Kiama Downs NSW / Australia
We were lucky to find awesome deal from Australian4WD Hire. The car was great and well equipped. From now on we love RTT. Australian 4WD Hire crew is very professional and extremely helpful. Thank you guys.Regards Kamil and Agnieszka Mielnik - Plympton SA / Australia
Thanks very much Guys! The Hire vehicle (Toyota Hilux) served us exceptionally well. It was reliable & the staff in Darwin were great to deal with. Would book through you guys again!Thank you, Clint & Rebecca Magro👍🐗 - Cordeaux Heights NSW / Australia
We are now home from our Aussie out back trip . Thank you for a very good Toyota Prado and roof top tent. Only one cool night in roof top tent but over all very cosy indeed. We did appreciate being able to go Townsville out to Tenant Creek, Alice Springs, Uluru, Mount Dare and across the Simpson Desert and back up to Townsville. Pick up and drop off of Prado was to your agent in Cairns who was excellent with everything before and on return and your main office. All correspondence answered very quickly indeed. We will be seeing your company on our next Aussie adventure. Once again a big thank you.Murray and Marilyn Davis - Nelson / New Zealand
Dear Aus 4WD, Thank you for the awesome experience! We had a great time on Noosa's North Shore with the Landcruiser we hired from Australian 4WD Hire. The entire team provided absolutely brilliant service - from start to finish and I couldn't recommend your business enough. Keep up the great work and we're already looking forward to our next 4WD adventure!Kind regards Dominik Waldmeier – Kelvin Grove QLD / Australia
I couldn’t recommend Australian 4WD more highly. The customer service was punctual and professional The vehicle was kitted out with quality camping gear which makes all the difference when in the outback. We travelled from Darwin through to Kakadu NP down to Alice springs and around the Uluru and Kings Canyon region. The Car never skipped a beat. Camping on the roof was ideal for the type of travel and the Batwing style doors on the FJ cruiser made storing items in the back easier to access. Things that were great - quality of most camp gear especially Engel fridge - cleanliness of vehicle on pickup meant I was determined to hand back vehicle in same state - bond returned same day as return (amazing) - unlimited kms is great no stress or worrySome items that I would recommend would be the following. - Fit a CB radio to encourage groups to book together and so you can keep in contact between vehicles in non-reception zones - offer some heavy duty storage tubs as an extra or included for food and camping items required on trips this would be handy. - higher quality lighting/ portable lighting options to hire would be helpful. The small torch was not enough. Great service and looking forward to our next tripRegards Daniel Rumph – Fitzroy VIC / Australia
The customer service I received from 4WD Australia and JJ Car Hire (the operator in Darwin) were great! The guys at JJ took great care of me, ensured I had all the tools I needed. They even lent me a 20 litter water container, a USB port as well as an Esky for my trip. I flew in from Perth to Darwin and was travelling alone. The small touches went a long way to make me feel confident in the trip. Travelling on my own in the bush, a reliable vehicle is very important. When I had a small issue with some warning lights on the vehicle, 4WD Australia's customer services was exceptional. Always just a call away 24/7. They promptly addressed the issue and made sure I was safe to continue my trip without me missing out on any adventures! They bond was reimbursed within 2 days. No issues. Travelling in the outback again on my own, I would definitely use 4WD Australia again! I would recommend them to other singles travelling too! (And families, couples etc 🙂 )Regards Colleen van Zyl – Claremont WA / Australia
Booking was made easy and the Prado 4WD was a pleasure to drive on the Gibb River Road. We travelled with 4 in the Prado visiting such places as Mornington Wilderness Camp which was a great experience, getting right off the grid, this place was amazing although we had to travel 2 hours off the Gibb River Rd to get there. The roof top tent was great and the tents very easy to put up and fold up the next morning. This is the 2nd time we have used Australian 4WD. Previously doing a return loop from Cairns to Cape York & despite the negative articles online, we have not experienced any negatives with them. We will be using them again for your next trip.Regards Steve McElhenny – Concord West NSW / Australia
Hello Maryna, money came to my account and everything are OK. I would like send you big big thanks. Me and my family spent a great vacation with a lot adventures. Australia is beautiful country. Car was absolutely reliable. The car was like a member of our family:-) We felt safety. The same are about equipment. I will recommend yours company to all of my friends. I hope that sometime in future we back to Australia and utilize your service again.Best regards Oldřich Volf - Karlovy Vary / Czech Republic
Thank you for the fast refund. We were very happy with the experience with your company. We enjoyed our trip a lot and the car was the perfect way to travel the area. The service was fast and efficient. The only thing that would maybe have helped was if we could have had some explanation about the use of the rooftop tent before setting of. Other than that we were happy with the entire experience. Thank you!Kind regards, Ada and Jan Maes – Subiaco WA / Australia
Hi Dan, We have just returned from our trip through the Kimberley with the Bush Camper Large RTT. Thank you so much for organising the replacement vehicle. We had a fantastic trip. The car performed fantastically on the Gibb River Road, and the road into the Bungle Bungle ranges. The tent on top of the car worked so well, and made camping really easy. The service when we picked up and dropped off the car was also great. We would most definitely recommend Australian 4WD Hire, and will be in touch when we head to Fraser Island next year. With kind regards, Cate Sinclair - St Brighton VIC / Australia
The car was excellent, in good condition and we had no problems on our journey. The car presented exactly as per the website. JJ’s in Darwin were excellent providing answering all questions and providing a thorough orientation to the vehicle, tent and other camping items.Kind regards, Dr David Hoppe - Cottesloe WA / Australia
Thank you very much Maryna, yes refund received. Indeed we had a great holiday, and the Prado performed very well. It is the ideal vehicle for a Top End trip that involves dirt roads. We appreciated that the vehicle was very clean and in good condition (for its miles) and in particular Brett at JJs was very helpful and professional. Thank you again for helping to make it a great holiday.Best regards Ian Jamieson - Cremorne Point NSW / Australia
Hi Maryna, Many thanks for the below and quick refund processing time. Despite the initial mechanical issue we had with the car at pick up, we had a very memorable trip and would definitely use the Australian 4WD services again. Special thanks to James and the team from JJ’s in Darwin, excellent customer service and additional consideration following the initial car problem. Also special thanks to Jake for his flexibility and initiative in coming up with a solution that was very agreeable and got our trip back on track in a timely manner. The real test of a company’s customer service abilities is how they respond when things go wrong, as they do from time to time. I am happy to say that in this case we were very pleased with how Australian 4WD & JJ’s responded.Vincent Mossfield – Taipa / Macau
Hi Jake, Thank you. Look forward to doing more business in the future with you when we head up the centre and to the west . Once again thanks for your speedy attention to everything.Jennifer Braybrook – Lavington NSW / Australia
Hi All, Thanks for your prompt refund of our security bond and we would like to give you a reference based on our experience. AUSTRALIAN 4WD HIRE EXPERIENCE. We hired a Toyota 4WD Hilux with rooftop tent and all the camping, recovery and safety gear for 5 weeks. Australian 4WD Hire was chosen because it was the only place we found that would let us do the Simpson Desert crossing on the French Line which was the highlight of our 6500km trip. The price was also the best we found and had unlimited kilometres and over these the vehicle performed flawlessly. Peter Bailey of Mechanical Servicing and Repairs your Cairns agent was very obliging and friendly on pickup and drop off. He and his team must be commended on the high standard of Vehicle preparation and service with nothing being too much trouble! Equally Maryna Kosukhina and the team at Australian 4WD Hire provided great information and hire details while still planning our trip from N.Z. along with booking and pick up details in Cairns. Our $10,000AUD bond for excess insurance and remote access was refunded to our credit card in the 2 days it took to get home to New Zealand, very impressive. Finally a HUGE THANKYOU!!! From Helen and myself for making our Terrific Adventure possible and uninterrupted fun!!Best Regrards - Miles Anderson (President Nelson 4WD Club)
Hi Maryna thank you for the email and thank you for the refund of my bond. We had an amazing trip and the vehicle performed well. I will certainly use your company again. Thank you again.Deidre Bail – Rosebud VIC / Australia
I want to give a shout out to the team at Australian 4WD Hire. My friends and I from Melbourne, hired 3 Prado’s and went up to the tip of Australia leaving from Cairns. From my perspective they were very good. I got worried reading some negative press. Peter at the Cairns Depot was excellent as were Maryna and the team. Equipment was pretty good. We had a few minor issues but we need to appreciate the extreme environment that these vehicles operate in. We treated the cars gently but did some very extreme 4wd work on the Tele track. If you hire one of these cars, stay responsible and treat it as your own, you will have one of the best holidays of your life.Warren West – Sunburry VIC / Australia
We, are a family of five from Holland, travelled Western Australia for nearly a month in one of Australia 4wd’s vehicles: a Toyota Landcruiser Prado. An excellent way to experience all the beautiful places in the coastal area near Ningaloo Bay and even on the Gibb River Road on our way to Darwin. The car performed as if it were brand new, although it had already driven more than 60.000 kilometres when we started. Our journey started in Broome where we got a nicely cleaned car from the local agent. And, very important, instructions for lowering the pressure of the tyres when driving on unsealed roads. This, and careful driving, certainly contributed to a hassle free holiday. We had no damage, not even a flat tyre! And we drove 6500 kilometres. The local agent in Darwin did a quick but thorough check on our vehicle when we returned it last Wednesday. Only a few days later we got an email from Australian 4WD’s office with a confirmation of the return of the bond we paid.Lucien van Riswijk – Druten / Netherlands
Australian 4WD Hire provided us with a dual cab Hilux that was only 19,000 km old for our trip to travel from north of Broome down the coast to Esperance and then returning to Perth. The vehicle was clean and did everything we needed it to do. The customer service from people we have dealt with at Australian 4WD Hire has been professional and they always replied to emails and questions we had. I am more than capable when put into situations of long distance driving or driving a 4WD. I have owned 4WD vehicles for much of my driving career and use them for work on a daily basis. Australian 4WD Hire have terms and conditions that may concern some people looking to hire a vehicle through them. However, if you treat the vehicle as if it was your own, and with respect for the vehicle's capabilities and the road rules, and return the vehicle the way it was presented to you - aside from usual wear and tear, there will never be an issue. I want to enforce this upon anyone looking to hire a vehicle through Australian 4WD Hire. They just want their vehicles looked after so that they can present it to the next person in the same condition as it was presented to you. Also, our security bond was returned to us within the first full business day of returning the vehicle. Overall, an excellent experience.Patrick Fox – Horsham VIC / Australia
From France, we planned a one month trip with a 4WD across Australia. We asked for many quotes. First they were the cheapest secondly they allow us to go anywhere, and there is no limited distance. Many places are prohibited with most of the rentals: Jim Jim, Tanami, lost city etc... We could go everywhere we wanted. The team in Darwin was super cool, we arrived one day sooner and no extra cost. Same for drop off in Cains they drive us downtown after the drop. I really recommend Australian 4WD Hire.Olivier Coste – Rians Vars / France
For anyone who has concerns about hiring a car from Australian 4WD Hire, we can only say do it! We hired a Prado for our two week trip to Cape York recently from Cairns and had a great experience. The car and gear they provided were fantastic and A1 Mechanics in Cairns who service the cars are top notch so there’s no concerns about mechanical faults. We made sure we stuck to their terms and conditions and our bond was returned to our bank account within two days of returning the car.Mark Ellis – Yangebup WA / Australia
Booking the car online was quite easy. They didn't have what we wanted so they gave us an upgraded vehicle for the same price. The customer service at our pickup point in Rothwell was awesome. It was great to hire the car and have access to the camping gear that came with it. The vehicle we used was well maintained and for what we got and where we were allowed to take it the vehicle was well priced. Would definitely use these guys again thanks heaps. See you soon Australian 4wd.Daniel Nash – Ellerbeck QLD / Australia
Guys from the head office were the most helpful. Absolutely all of my questions, before, during and after hire were answered and I could not be any happier with the service that I received. Regarding all the recent media coverage, dealing with the company was a pleasure. I never felt or experienced anything even close to what was described in the article or in some of the negative reviews. It seems as though the media is just trying to sell their stories by spreading fear and confusion without considering any of the happy customers. Australian 4wd has the clearest t&c’s of any company we looked into and far less restrictions. We hired a Toyota Prado with a ground tent, car had a few km’s but was in immaculate condition and never skipped a beat. Brett at the Darwin depo did an amazing job checking us out, everything was shown and explained properly. To have such a good start to the holiday gives you a very nice feeling and puts your mind at ease. Our experience was great from the start till the finish. Bond was refunded a couple of days after we returned the car, this was an absolutely worry-free holiday. For anyone who’s looking into hiring with these guys: if you don’t have any plans to mistreat the vehicle and want to get 100% out of your outback holiday, then this is definitely a company for you, you just need to take care of the car like you would if it was yours, which wasn’t hard for us. We will be back for sure. See you soon Australian 4wd.Tamara Tims – Brisbane QLD / Australia
My husband, 4yo daughter and I hired a Hilux with a rooftop tent from Cairns for our Cape York trip. The vehicle was clean, well maintained and drove well. The tent was easy to erect & pack up; the only complaint being the mattress had seen its fair share of use! The 60km/h limit on unsealed roads made for a bumpy ride and placed undue stress on the vehicle, although I believe that policy may have now changed. We found our experience of dealing with Australian 4wd Hire Cairns to be most positive & would definitely use them again. The booking process was simple and any questions via email were answered quickly.Sherena Smith – Penguin TAS / Australia
Hi Maryna, Thank you very much for your prompt email. The car and trip were fantastic and I would happily recommend Australian 4WD Hire. Greatly appreciatedDavid Paton – Kangaroo Point QLD / Australia
Thank you. I enjoyed my trip and happy that all went well. The 4wd was spacious and comfortable. Communication with your team was easy. A highlight of my trip was a morning walk in Murrumbidgee National Park along Yanga Lake. There must have been a hundred pelicans and hundreds of other birds.Ben Tanny – St Ives SA / Australia
Dear Australian 4WD Hire, many thanks for the quick reply and handling of the extension. The trip to Kakadu, the Gibb River and around Broome was excellent. I have seen a lot that I would never be able to see in Europe. We had one tire failure on the Gibb River Road, where the road was extremely corrugated. I guess that is what you have to expect when driving such roads. I expected that the tire would not be covered by my contract, not when you are travelling 700km on the Gibb River Road. Given the phantastic trip we had, this is certainly worth an extra expenditure. Thanks for handling the bond quickly, my daughter will be delighted (to spend my money).Best Wishes Prof. Lorenz Schwark – Lehmkuhlen / Germany
I would recommend Australian 4WD to others. We hired a Toyota Prado with roof-top tent from Broome and travelled along the Gibb River Road to Kununurra (including the Kalumburu and Port Warrender Roads) and returned on the Great Northern Highway. The vehicle was well provisioned with fridge, stove and recovery kit. The tent was VERY easy to erect and surprisingly comfortable. The car was a real work-horse and we had a lot of confidence in its reliability in remote areas. Broome Hire (as agents) made the collection and return of the car very simple. Australian 4WD staff were always ready to answer queries, especially Amber and Jake. Thanks for the opportunity to visit these locations in the Kimberley with a minimum of fuss.Marcus & Louisa Harty – Malvern VIC / Australia
Booking: The booking was very easy. I simply requested a quote on the internet and went from there. Customer service: Excellent both verbally on the phone and through email. Vehicle: Very comfortable. Came fully equipped with a fridge and camping gear.Steven Murphy – Darwin NT / Australia
We had a bloody great time with our Isuzu MUX RTT for a week in Kakadu. Here's how it went for those interested. Naturally we were worried when we first read some of the more negative reviews online, so I spent a bunch of time reading forum threads, reviews, comments and replies to figure out if we would go for it or not. We came to the conclusion that all the bad experiences people had were caused by essentially not following the terms in the contract. And so we thought we would give it a go, follow the rules and see what happens. The booking process was easy. When I went to confirm my request they informed me that the smaller size camper wouldn't be available and instead offered us the medium size and a discounted rate - less than the original quote. Great! Communication was good in the lead up. We paid most of it on time and got in touch with them any time there was a delay on our part. they seemed appreciative and reasonable. Picking up the vehicle from JJ's Car Hire in Darwin was good. The staff there were helpful and happy to answer questions. A big one we had being the night time driving clause. Basically we knew we wanted to see a sunset at Ubirr Rock and then stay in Jabiru that night. This is a 40km drive. Half would be between sunset and dark, half would be pretty much dark. The agent at JJ's said that it would be fine and it was a reasonable request. Great! There was a slight delay in the vehicle handover while the team made sure the RTT and the awning were in good shape. They made a few repairs. Because of this delay they threw in an almost full gas bottle for the camping stove (normally doesn't come with one, up to the hirer to get one from a camping store ~$20ish). They asked what other camping equipment we needed and let us pick and inspect it all before we loaded it up. The fridge was fantastic too, a real game changer for those of us used to camping with an esky. Side note: we met up with friends in Kakadu who were doing the exact same trip as us and hired through a different company. They also had a good experience BUT their vehicle was much older and their fridge was rubbish, basically it wasn't cold enough to keep proper refrigerated food at all. Ours was able to keep steaks and some salmon fillets plus loads of veggies and fresh milk for as long as you would at home. Great! The 4wd itself was perfect for us. It was well used, with ~150K kms of hire-car use under its belt, so obviously had some wear, but in fine shape overall. It had two new tyres. We made sure to inspect it with the staff and point out anything we noticed as far as cosmetic wear. I made sure to look under the vehicle for anything obvious. I'm no mechanic but I spotted one or two small things that I pointed out to the staff and they noted. It drove great! No problems there. During our trip we made sure to religiously stick to the speed limit, including 60kmh on dirt roads. This wasn't an issue really. We just took our time getting places. Every now and then I'd look down and realise I'd crept up by 5 or 10kmh for just a few seconds, but this didn't result in any Driver Behaviour Reports as in other people's reviews. At the end of the trip we had to return the car a day early as our plans had changed. And this put the return date on a NT public holiday. We called the head office to make sure it was cool and they gave us a contact for JJ's and they were happy to come down and do the check in and inspection for us. Prior to returning we spent a good hour or two cleaning the car inside and out, including giving the underbody a good high pressure rinse and wiping out all the dust from the door sills, boot sill etc. All in all it went fine. There were no issues. We got our bond back in full. I even gave them an incorrect account number first time around and they had to do the transfer again, which they were fine with. Our hire was only for one week, and we only did about 1500kms, plus we returned the vehicle to the same people as we picked it up from. So I can imagine if you were doing a much longer trip, or a one way trip, the risks could go up. That being said, from a vehicle comfort, camping comfort and reliability standpoint, I wouldn't have hesitated taking this particular MUX on a much longer one way journey. As long as I was confident that all the wear on the vehicle was properly noted for the return inspection. From our experience we'd definitely give them a go again.Ross Caddaye – Earlwood NSW / Australia
All in all it was a fantastic holiday, which was assisted by the immaculate and comfortable Land Cruiser Prado that I have the pleasure of taking to the Top End. The communication throughout was great, and even the restrictions were understandable and reasonable. As someone who owns a new off-road capable ute, many don’t understand the costs associated with the fitting of the specialise equipment and the maintenance required. I’ll certainly be watching for my next trip over when I’ll look to take a ute from Darwin to Broome.David Evans – Ngaruawahia / New Zeeland
Hello Maryna, thank you very much for your kind mail and for refunding our bond so fast. We are at home now after a long flight. But: We had an amazing travel through the north of Australia and we will come back. We enjoyed it every day and your 4WD brought us to special and wonderful places. Thanks for that! Have a nice day too. 😊 See ya,Juliane & Mathias Sander – Hannover / Germany
I found the steps to take to book a 4x4 were easy, customer service was great and the FJ was in good nick and went well for my wife and myself to travel the NT. We had a roof top camper it suited us, they supplied fridge and the basic stuff for camping all we needed was food and bevies. Good Fun.Nigel Hickman – Krambach NSW / Australia
Loved the car - was clean and in great order, along with the rest of the camping equipment provided. Wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them to a friend. One thing I would say though is be aware of the fine print - and stick to the rules around speeding / driving after dusk etc and all will be good.Andy Sampson – Clontarf NSW / Australia
Thank you for the opportunity to use the vehicle. It was a brilliant break away. Both the agents were really helpful and friendly. Hope I can get the chance to use one of your vehicles again.Regards Helen Harris – Belmont WA / Australia
Hi Maryna, Thank you for your email and your service! Once again we had a truly wonderful time! The car was brand new, only a few thousands kilometres and all the equipment was in very condition. It was a very comfortable and smooth drive, we enjoyed every kilometre and every second of it! We saw some of the most amazing natural wonders of Australia and it wouldn't have been possible without your exceptional service quality. We will definitely use your company again in the future to explore more of this beautiful and mesmerizing country. Thank you again for your high quality service, it was really a great experience.Eve Revalor – Carlton VIC / Australia
From the time I first enquired about hiring a 4 wheel drive to the time I received my deposit back after returning from holidays Australia 4WD Hire has been a pleasure to deal with. Friendly, helpful people when you ring up and paperwork (e-mails) always on time and plenty of information. 4WD did have minor bumps and bruises but was thoroughly checked and recorded. All equipment was good quality, worked well and was easy to manage. Had a fantastic stress free holiday and would highly recommend Australian 4WD Hire to others and would have no hesitation using them again.Scott Pedden – Ourimbah NSW / Australia
We recently took a Australian 4WD MUX Rooftop from Cairns through the Gulf of Carpentaria to Lorella Springs, NT and back via Lorne Hill. Couldn't have been easier dealing with Pete in Cairns, he's extremely accommodating and we know how pedantic punters can be. The guy deserves a medal. Very enjoyable trip but unluckily ended a few days early with a suspension mount failure in the middle of nowhere on the way to Julia Creek. Have to say we were nervous with how OZ 4WD might view the circumstance as we had done some hard miles. We shouldn't have worried. As soon as we were able to get a message back they had us sorted and our minds at ease. Flights out of Julia Creek back to Cairns and a replacement car waiting. They happily accepted our view that we had been without a car for 3 days (there's not many travel options from Julia Creek) and refunded the hire value without question. I've heard a few things about this company but it’s pretty obvious that they have their customer's best interests at heart. Crap can happen sometimes and when it does, these guys will have your back. See you again Australian 4WD!!Jeremy & Kelly Beissel – Manjimup WA / Australiaa
The booking was very easy and any questions I had were answered without an issue. The guys at JJs in Darwin were simply fantastic to deal with. They explained the equipment in detail and made it very easy for us to drive away with confidence. The roof top tent and vehicle were great. I would have no hesitation in recommending Aust 4WD Hire and hiring again in the future. The deposit was returned within 3 days, which was first class customer services.Ben Siegersma – Montrose VIC / Australia
I spent 7 weeks in this vehicle which had a rooftop tent. It was very clean and only had 7k on the clock so was in effect new. I picked it up in Darwin and the guy who checked me out was great. The only issue during the trip was the bash plate falling off which I had repaired but this was not the fault of Australia 4WD as it had been put on upside down by the contractor who did the conversion. Australia 4WD dealt with this in a fantastic way and refunded the money I spent on the repair without any issues. Can't praise this company more highly. The 4WD was excellent, the service is great, and they are so easy and professional to deal with. I dropped of the car at Darwin on 16/7 and the bond was refunded on 19/7. ExcellentChris Hobson – St. Albans Hertfordshire / UK
Booking was easy and very helpful in answering all my questions. The vehicle was great and allowed us to go areas that many other hire companies won’t allow their 4WD cars to go on (For example Jim Jim falls in Kakadu)Natasha Hawksley – Floreat WA / Australia
I had a most enjoyable holiday and was very pleased with the 4WD vehicle and camping equipment provided by Australian 4WD Hire in Broome, Western Australia. The equipment, which included a table, two chairs, two stretcher beds, a tent and esky were robust and easy to assemble. The refrigerator, which plugged into the car and was used continuously for the duration of my 9 day trip, was also very reliable and fit for purpose. I did not require the gas cooker and gas bottle offered with the complementary camping kit. It seemed to me that plenty of thought had gone into the choice and quality of the equipment provided, which was particularly helpful for a novice camper like me. The Toyota Prado was an excellent choice of vehicle and proved to be reliable, safe and comfortable to drive on the gravel surface of the Gibb River Rd between Derby and Kununurra. I am keen to undertake another 4WD trek in the Kimberley next year and will not hesitate to book a vehicle and camping equipment through Australian 4WD Hire. My one suggestion for improvement would be to enable one-way vehicle hire between Broome and Kununurra. This would have saved an 11 hour drive back to Broome for my return flight to Perth.Paul Wallwork – North Fremantle WA / Australia
Our recent 22 day Aus 4WD Hire experience was great. Plenty of initial information from the first enquiry by their representative, Amber. All requests / queries were VERY promptly responded to. Our pickup in Darwin worked well. Brett spent a couple of hours with us. He went thoroughly through all the equipment and 'all things 4WD'. He suggested we should also take a tent (no extra cost). This proved to be a masterstroke as we used in every night in preference to the rooftop built-in unit. He also took a couple of 'after hours' calls on day one, when we couldn't find some bits and pieces....thank you Brett!!!. The Prado was the perfect 4WD for the Gibb River Road. It could, however, have benefited from its own GPS (fortunately we had our own) and a Toyota manual, as we are not experienced 4WDers - this could have been a problem if we had a flat tyre, as getting the spare out isn't straight forward. There was a propriety vehicle tracking system (where, when and how fast) installed to ensure you follow their rules. This could be a potentially dangerous part of the world if you got onto undesignated roads, do more the 60kmp on the dirt or drive between dusk and dawn, so their rules are very sensible. On return, my advice to the hirer should be to find out prior where the vehicle Drop Off, 24hr carwash/vac is located. We rang their representative, Dan, in Broome, and he put us onto one just around the corner. Hirers must allow some hours to do this cleaning as the car will be riddled with dust / dirt. At the Drop off there was an immediate check of the 4WD itself. The car was checked on return, the equipment check was done off site that afternoon. We received an email the next day advising that our full bond had been returned (in 24 hours). We would suggest that you bring your own maps (we recommend the latest Hema Kimberley Guide),check that the A/C air filter is clean (otherwise you may have air con problems) and that tent pegs etc are in the car before setting off. Their recommendation to camp close to their base on the first night is a good one, especially if something important has been missed. Also, depending on how long and where, Hirers might want to consider getting a VERY good ice "Esky" to back up the Engle freezer supplied. In summary, overall, it was a very good experience and I would definitely recommend Australian 4WD to all potential 'remote area' driving adventurers.Sam Pearson – Prahran VIC / Australia
Dealing with Australian 4WD was seamless. They are extremely professional from the start to the finish. We picked up our Prado in Darwin and returned here. The briefing was thorough. Not one issue with the Prado on our Kakadu, Litchfield trip. Appreciated the space. Car fridge a must. Thank you.Sophie Pick – Malvern East VIC / Australia
Prompt quoting and easy booking, VERY! good customer service. Swift handling of queries before, during and after the rental period. The staff of Australian 4WD hire does care about his customers. I always had the feeling that we were not just 'a number' in their book. Very good quality of the car. A higher clearance would have been appreciated (compared to the rental back in 2015, the Toyota Prado seems to be fitted with standard suspension and shock absorbers in 2018). The running boards are more an obstacle when driving off-road. However, the Prado was fit for purpose. That is what counts. Security bond has been paid back 2 days after the Prado has been dropped-off. One cannot expect a faster handling. Very generous handling regarding the compensation of the air compressor which we had to purchase due to a malfunction of the one provided by the rental company. Camping equipment provided was in top condition (new tent, new chairs, new stretcher, new gas stove). The white colour of the camping table (table top) is a challenge to clean when being out in the bush for several weeks.Regards Rolf Tremp – Sissach / Switzerland
We booked a Toyota Hilux with a roof top tent from Australian 4WD over twelve months ago and then started reading all the negative feedback so naturally we were very apprehensive about this hire. All of our concerns and apprehensions were unwarranted. We picked the Hilux up at Broome on July 2, 2018. Our main destinations were Tunnel Creek, the Bungle Bungle, Lake Argyle and El Questro. The Hilux we were given was near new with 15k on the speedo. The staff at Broome Hire were excellent. We returned the Hilux on Saturday July 14. Australian 4WD advised us by email on Monday July 16 that our security deposit would be credited to our bank account. The deposit was returned in full to our bank account on Tuesday July 17.Regards Bradford Fifield – Kyle Bay NSW / Australia
Just back from a 2 week camping trip driving from Darwin to Broome through the Kimberley. Given recent bad press we were a little nervous at the outset, but the 4WD supplied was an almost brand new Toyota Prado GXL GT. It was a fantastic to drive and handled the rough roads with ease. The camping gear was in excellent condition, easy to use and fit the bill perfectly. The tents were easy to set and pack up - and the stretchers were much better than sleeping on the ground. Australian 4WD were one of the only companies I could find that would provide a 4WD vehicle and equipment to accommodate our family of 6. If I am honest it was a tight fit, but we did get better at packing - particularly into the enormous canvas carry bag on the roof rack. Given the 3000km or so we travelled, I hardly heard any complaints from the kids. We did carefully read the T&C before hiring, and we stuck to the rules as best we could. On occasion we did have to drive short distances after sunset: On our first night we arrived at a campground quite late only to discover it had been closed and we had to turn back; and a few times to see a local sunset spot. We didn't travel long distances after sunset. In retrospect, the sunset rule is probably more sensible than it sounds. One of the families we were travelling with (who used a different hire company) drove from Derby to Broome after dark. They very nearly hit a cow, and were subsequently passed by several emergency vehicles coming in the opposite direction - which we later discovered were attending a tour bus carrying 16 people that DID hit a cow and overturned. We also stuck to the 60km/h off road speed limit, except for a couple of mental lapses and overtaking. At times this felt a bit slow, and on some corrugations made for a bit of a bumpy ride - but I'm not an experienced 4WDer and I felt in control the whole time. On the whole it made us take our time and enjoy the scenic rides. After all, the purpose of the trip was to see some pretty remote places, and to get away from our very busy daily schedule. Our bond was promptly refunded in full after we returned the vehicle in Broome. Overall an awesome experience, and a holiday I think the kids will remember for quite a while. We loved the walks around El Questro and Emma Gorge, the Mitchell Plateau, the Mornington Wilderness Camp, Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek, and the gear from Aust. 4WD made it all achievable.Regards Julian Neil – Brunswick VIC / Australia
Thank you for the quick assessment of the vehicle as returned and the quick return of our bond. Our hire went well. The Darwin and Broome team you have employed did a good job. The vehicle was well presented and in good condition with minimal wear and tear given its 53k mileage and the roads it would have been driven on. The camping gear was in good condition, some of it was new. An improvement would be the option for a 2nd spare wheel, for the remote roads we were travelling on.Regards John Bortolussi – Middle Park VIC / Australia
Hello Maryna. Thank you for the bond refund. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The 4WD with rooftop tent was excellent, as was the service we received from your Alice Springs agency.Regards Jen and Rob Bischof – Sherwood QLD / Australia
I booked with this company because it was the only vehicle hire company which allowed use on the CSR. Booking was easy, people helpful and documentation precise. The vehicle was received in good serviced condition and met our needs mechanically and camping. The company always responded to my phone and email contacts within hours. I was made perfectly clear about my obligations under this hire agreement both in the agreement and in clarifying discussion with the company. In my review of the vehicle I was impressed that it appeared that the vehicle had been set up to meet the requirements of a long hire and remote travel.Paul Rouppe Van Der Voort – Napier Hawkes Bay / New Zealand
I was really impressed by an Australian 4wd Prado hired for 3 weeks out of Broome. Great vehicle, thoughtfully set up with long range tanks, bull bar, auxiliary battery, etc, etc. There is no substitute for a larger 4wd such as the Prado on the rough roads and tracks of the Kimberly! Hire also included a roof top tent and camping gear including a standalone tent and stretchers. All good quality and functional though some things were a bit more tired than others. The standalone tent is a great addition when camping in one location for more than one night. Careful though, if it’s a cold Kimberley night, the chill comes through the stretcher from underneath! A second table or stand for the stove would have been nice to have. We got to like the roof top tent. Warmer than the stretchers but the mattress is not forgiving! And after a bit of practice - pretty quick to put up and pack down. Broome agent looked after us well but some initial instruction/demonstration of the RTT would have avoided some first time frustration and a return visit to the agent for a small repair. Other than that: quality, suitable, well maintained vehicle (most important!); functional camping gear - and a rapid (one day) return of the security deposit. All good thanks!John & Margaret Tilleard – Somers VIC / Australia
We were extremely happy with the 4WD Roof Top tent and equipment we hired. It was quite a new vehicle and everything was comfortable, fresh and clean. The roof top tent was really easy to set-up but you did have to climb on top of the vehicle to setup which was fine for us but a little ladder attached to the side would have been perfect, especially for the less flexible. An overview of how to setup wasn’t provided but we asked enough questions at pick-up to show us how to get started and we worked the rest out. It would have been useful though as the side window poles took a bit to work out and these aren’t demonstrated on the video. Other than that it really was a wonderful trip and the 4WD RTT was perfect for the places we visited.Regards Diane Ireland – Bathurst NSW / Australia
Hello Maryna, Thank you for your email. We had a wonderful time! The service was great, the car was in good condition and very comfortable to drive. The camping gears were spot on! We manage to see Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon. We stopped in Coober Pedy for a desert break. Everything went very smoothly and we even had a little adventure: About 100km away from Port Augusta, the trailer in front of us lost a bolt and then the wheel! Ultimately the bolt hit the windshield and made a chip in it. We called you right away and you were very helpful explaining what options we had. We ended up changing the windshield (as we had a bit of extra time) before returning the car. We were also able to change the appointment for both pick-up and drop off without any problem. Overall a great experience and we are looking forward to using your services again soon!Kindly Eve Revalor – Carlton Vic / Australia
Thanks Maryna for your prompt return of the security bond. I was very satisfied with the communication and service provided by both your team and the Broome pick-up point. Both the hired 4WD and included equipment were well suited to the conditions and made for an enjoyable trip through-out the Kimberley. Thanks again Richard Stern - Killara NSW / Australia

Thanks, happy for you to add the following from us, and the picture attached to the testimonials: We had a lovely trip around the NT and the UTE and equipment were perfect for us. JJ'S car hire Darwin were very clear on the T&Cs, great explanation on the UTE and equipment at pickup and very reasonable on drop-off - thanks guys.Andrew, Anna & Curtis Round - Williamstown VIC / Australia
Good morning Australian 4WD Hire, We all had such a great trip, From Darwin through the Kimberley and dropped off at Broome. The 4WD Prado allocated to us was great, very well equipped and the roof rack with bag worked a treat no dust got into our baggage! Must see, Emma Gorge, Mitchell Falls, Drysdale River Station, El Questro Thermal springs, Timber Creek, Kununurra, Derby, Tunnel Creek Thank you Australian 4WD Hire for your ongoing support as we have hired 4 x 4WD's so far.Simon Geddes – Mickleham VIC / Australia
We have started to do some outback Australian travel and have just returned from the first of our adventures. We flew to Cairns and hired a 4WD from Australian 4WD Hire, then drove to the tip of Cape York and back to Cairns. We live on a farm and know 4WD vehicles and we were really impressed with the Isuzu MUX that we hired. It was hard to fault the vehicle and it made the rough roads to the Cape more bearable. The Australian 4WD team were great, right from the initial booking process through to when we picked up the vehicle and returned it. They could not have been more helpful, and our vehicle bond was refunded promptly and without any dramas, which was great. Our 4WD hire vehicle came with all the necessary camping gear so the whole traveling and camping process was made easy. On our trip we camped at various camping grounds and roadhouses. At the tip we camped at Bamaga, Seisia and Punsand Bay, which were all fabulous. We had a ball and recommend the trip to anyone considering a 4WD holiday with a bit of adventure. It really is unlike any other destination. We have already booked our Kimberley trip for later this year and we will use Australian 4WD Hire again due to our complete satisfaction with the whole process. We will continue to use them going forward and would recommend them to anyone wishing to hire a 4WD.Grant Ducat and Robyn Grant – Cudgen NSW / Australia
Hi Maryna, Thanks to all there for all the assistance with 4WD hire for my Canning Stock Route trip. Everything went great I enjoyed my trip and the 4WD I had hired was suitable for my destination. I have attached some photos from my journey on the Canning Stock Route. The administration in hiring was excellent and the return of vehicle was quick and efficient. I will have no problem in recommending Australian 4WD Hire to anyone.Regards John McDonald – Tullamore / Ireland
I hired from you this year and had an amazing trip around kakadu The terms and conditions were clear and easy to understand, also we planned our travel to ensure we did not drive at night or on any closed roads. The customer service was great as was the quality of the vehicle. Thanks for providing a great service. We would hire from you again in a heartbeatRobert Smith
I must admit I was nervous about all the terms and conditions when we hired a car to go to Kakadu two years ago. However, I found the car well maintained and up to the challenge of driving in rough terrain. Staff were helpful and were very reasonable when inspecting the car on return. The accusations outlined in that article were nowhere near the experience we had. I would recommend Australian 4WD hire to anybody.Anna Hurley
You can put my name to the happy list of customers hired out for 14 days Great service great vehicleDavid Bonner

Hi Maryna, The great help from Peter was very greatly appreciated. A very nice man indeed. The Prado was more than enough. The trip to the TIP. Well only my eyes can experience the pleasure and thoughts of achievement. A Bucket list for me. Thank you to all for making it possible. Go and do it. Not gunna do it !!!!!!! Thank you so much for refunding the security bond so quick. We had an amazing trip and the vehicle you provided was perfect for our adventure. The Hilux was well equipped, very capable and reliable and had everything we needed. We will definitely hire from Australia 4WD again and be recommending to others. We will post some pics and a review when we get sorted.Nigel Brown – Mount Victoria NSW / Australia
We had an awesome Top End adventure (Litchfield, Katherine Gorge, and Kakadu). The Prado RTT was a big part of the adventure. The vehicle and camping equipment was in great shape. The pickup and drop-off experience in Darwin was excellent. The bond was returned (in full) in three business days. Attaching a pic of the Prado at the Mardugal Two campground in Kakadu.Chad Smith – Alexandria NSW / Australia
I rented with Australian 4WD Hire for 3 weeks for a one way trip from Brisbane to Broome in April 2018. The vehicle supplied was brand new and all equipment was new and of good quality. Contrary to other reviews I have read, I felt I would post my personal experience that their charges when I was unfortunate enough to cause minor damage to the vehicle were completely fair and reasonable. I knocked a mudflap off and put a deep scrape in the alloy wheel when I dropped a wheel into a fissure in the track in my blind spot when turning around - $75 for the replacement mudflap (genuine Toyota part including shipping from Perth to Broome), $50 for fitting and $50 admin charge, no charge for the scrape on the alloy - an invoice from the local agent in Broome which rectified the damage was also provided. There was no attempt to unfairly profit from my mistake or to ramp up charges based on the logged usage of the vehicle. My usage of the vehicle was responsible but not perfect, so if their approach was to exploit driving behaviour with punitive charges as has been suggested elsewhere, I gave them opportunity, but nothing of the kind was attempted - specifically, there were occasions when I drove up to 70 km/h on dirt roads to get a better washboard effect (vs the 60 km/h off road limit stipulated in the agreement) and one afternoon where I drove at 10-15 km/h over the WA 110 km/h limit to ensure I made my destination before dark (when i realised that although the clocks had gone back entering WA, the sun hadn't). My experience with Australian 4WD is 100% that if you are fair and responsible with them, they will be with you. I have rented 4WD vehicles regularly for tourism over the last 20 years with most of the major off-road rental companies operating in Australia and Southern Africa and believe Australian 4WD Hire offer an excellent service which compares very favourably with my past experiences with other rental companies. This was my first time renting with them, but I would have absolutely no hesitation in doing so again in the future or recommending them to others.Richard Hudson – Goole / UK
Hello, Thanks a lot for the information and the quick refund. We truely enjoyed the getaway with your 4WD. We highly appreciated the well-maintained and reliable car, the good camping equipment and especially the great, friendly and uncomplicated service. We can only highly recommand your company. We are absolutely convinced that we hire again a car from your company for our next trip. In the attachment, there are some photos of our trip. Of course we will leave a positive feedback on your site.Kind Regards,Nancy Auer - Oberterzen / Switzerland
Thanks Maryna, We had a fabulous trip - the car was perfect for what we wanted and having all of the extras included made it no fuss and very practical!Thank you again and I have no doubt that we will be back and also recommending Australian 4WD Hire to others! Cheers,Candis Fraser - North Fremantle WA / Australia
Thanks heaps, all good, the car was great. Will be back next year. Will send a couple of photos.Jason Pointing – Hollywell QLD / Australia
We had an awesome experience with Australian 4WD Hire, delightful to deal with, the equipment & vehicle was top notch. We were so surprised how easy the set-up of the roof-tent and annex was & made our life easy when looking to park up and camp. Will definitely be using them for our next trip!Steven Ingram – Kelmscott WA / Australia
We hired a Toyota Prado from Australian 4wd for our week-long trip to Fraser Island. The vehicle was in great condition and handled the tricky terrain with no issues. All the camping gear was excellent and it made out stay on the island pleasant, despite the poor weather. Would recommend to any travellers looking to go on a self-guided trip!Elliott Waring – Melbourne VIC / Australia
Rented a Prado for my overseas friend to visit Fraser. This is a second time I hire a 4WD from these people. Everything went well, near new car and they had the cheapest rate I could find.Paul Cherniakov – Brisbane QLD / Australia
Rented a Hilux to drive to Cape York and Daintree. Near new vehicle, all camping equipment was included. Had everything waiting for me at pre-booked time. Very happy, will use againPaul Cherniakov – Brisbane QLD / Australia
We had an amazing holiday, the entire process was done in a professional manner; from making enquiry with the head office to the pick-up of the vehicle in the Perth agency. The car itself was the latest model Prado - well equipped and performed well. We managed to visit many places starting from Perth and dropping off in Melbourne completing with a total of 6672kms. Camping gear was quite useful. We have received our bond back on our Credit card on 3rd day after the rental finished. Can highly recommend. Looking forward to book our Kimberley for the next year with this company.Dima Reznik – Brisbane QLD / Australia
First trip down under, we were doing extensive research before choosing a rental company; which was a challenge because it was hard to find a rental company without any negative reviews (I guess you can’t please everyone 😊) but complimentary camping gear and unlimited kilometres was hard to bid and with my ambitious travel plans, this was necessity. The Brisbane agency was very professional and helpful, we received nearly new vehicle which helped us to visit all our desired destinations without any difficulties or problems making our holidays pleasant and memorable.Victor Juneman – Schwaebish Gmuend / Germany
Our 5 weeks family holiday was an absolute blast! Peter in the Cairns agency was a great help and gave lots of valuable travel tips and ideas. We rented a Toyota Hilux with a roof top tent, can highly recommend this car for families travelling with lots of luggage. Kids turned the roof top tent into a playground with no mozzies. Camping gear was very easy to set up. We managed most of the Cape York and went down to Sydney, visiting a lot of hot spots along the way. We will be using them for our next family adventure.Lev & Victoria Root – Gold Coast QLD / Australia
We started from Melbourne with an Isuzu 4 WD RTT. The journey was 26 day long. It started on 18th December 17 and allowed us to visit many of the places of interest inside the Victoria. But there is so much to see there that we could have stayed much longer. This opportunity took us first to Tidal River in Wilsons Promontory National Park, then as main way points and stop overs to Rawson Forest, Jameison, Howqua Hills, Beechworth, Daylesford, Barramunga, Otway Forest National park, Portland / Narrawong, Halls Gap, then Back to Melbourne. The car was just right for the trip and it was a real new experience to use the Roof Top Tent. Strange at the beginning but very funny after all ,….. The RTT is basic but has the very advantage to be very easy to make up and also quite fast to fold back, increasing the mobility overall. Everything ran fine and the equipment provided in the car was exactly what we needed. We joined another vehicle on the same journey,.... Australian 4WD hire have been very helpful and professional all the way when needed. Specially their management of the hire upstream of our departure was thorough, well organized and documented so there was no issue later on. We simply had an amazing trip with no technical issue and no pressure at all from using the car. What a step change for us coming from France,…! Our only issue was a few days of rain that we did not expect at that time of the year and at that place,… We were very close to the environment and the wild life in the various parks visited. A trip that we will not be forgetting any time soon and that we sincerely recommend everyone to plan and do in a similar fashion. Thank you Australian 4WD hire !Maryse & Jean-Pierre Taillebois - Carqueiranne / France
We started our journey in WA going from Perth to Broome. We took only eight days as we wanted to explore as much as possible of the rest of Australia. However, there is so much to see you can easily take a couple of weeks, especially as distances in WA are vast. For that purpose, we rented a Toyota Hilux from Australian 4WD Hire with a roof top tent (RTT). The car was in good condition and the equipment amazing. Included was, besides the RTT (which is easy to build up - we had no previous experience), a stove, a fridge, a table, two chairs and a lot of other useful stuff. The staff was very friendly and explained everything in detail before we left. Along our way were many 4WD tracks and unsealed roads and it was really nice to have a good 4WD vehicle. Unfortunately, we got stuck 60 km before we could reach Broome, because of a really big flooding. In these situations, it´s helpful to have enough food, water, fuel and most of all a reliable vehicle made for extremes like we did. Luckily Australian 4WD Hire understood our situation completely and didn´t charged us for the extra days it took us to get to Broome. Especially during that time, they were always accessible, helpful and friendly.
We can only recommend to hire a 4WD for that kind of journey and were very satisfied with the service of Australian 4WD Hire. Furthermore, if you treat the car well (like your own) you will have no problem getting your security bond back. Depending on what you want to do and where you want to go, a 4WD is worth it, especially in WA. If we will ever have the chance to do a similar trip we will definitely book one of their vehicles again.
Hello Maryna, thank you for the security bond refund. The 4wd was a strong one and we appreciated it. We had a lovely holiday.Emilie and Francois-Xavier Bodin – Paris / France
Dear MarynaThank you for your message. I have 4WD experience and drive a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Dodge Ram in Switzerland. Your Toyota was a very reliable car in every situation and we felt safe during our whole trip. Even on Fraser Island we never got stuck and we always felt safe. The car needs not much gasoline so we also spend money by driving thousands of kilometres.Mark Rutishauser – Zurich / Switzerland
Hello Maryna,The 4WD hire worked really well with no problems. The hiring process was smooth from start to finish and the vehicle along with the camping gear allowed us to have a really great holiday and get to places that a car would not be able to. Collecting the vehicle in Adelaide worked really well, and Paul was great. I would certainly use Australian 4WD hire again, as it certainly saves driving from Perth, which unfortunately is a very long way from anywhere..... Once again, many thanks and all the best. Regards
Hi guys! We had an amazing time with our Prado. The car was so new and shiny and we enjoyed every minute in Western Australia (see pics below). Side awning is a great idea - easy shade anytime. Dual battery and 12 V outlet kept all my electronic equipment fully charged. How convenient! We really appreciated the shovel, however the car should have recovery boards too. Hope you like our pics. If we have chance we definitely go again. Thank you.Marketa Cerna & Jose Guedin Neto – North Curl Curl / NSW Australia
Dear Maryna, thank you for this notification. We greatly enjoyed the trip and the 4wd was wonderfully fitted out with camping equipment. We got very efficient at setting up our camp and this was partly because the gear was so functional and easy to use! Thanks again, we will definitely recommend your company to others. SincerelyDr Thomas J Hugh and Giselle Hugh – Pymble / NSW Australia
Hello Maryna, Thank you. It was a nice trip. Maybe a bit too rush in 9 days but we've seen a lot of nice things. We would like to do again in some months. Thanks for everything.Patrick and Yvonne Schroot – Halle / Germany
Firstly I’d say that the car was wonderful, as was the communication & booking process with your office - an absolute breeze. Our FJ Cruiser was kitted out with everything we needed to make us comfortable and confident. The camping equipment (most especially the fridge) was super useful. Our trip took us north from Perth primarily around the Shark Bay region. We took the 4WD track to Shelter Bay & Steep Point - it certainly paid to take it very slowly through the deep sand & ensure the tyres were right down. This place is totally worth the drive, we stayed on a beach by ourselves for 4 nights which was magic. You have to carry in your own water, but you can very easily catch your own fish to eat too! We also spent some time at Kalbarri which was great, stopping along the way to take in various sights, hikes and beaches. The beach at Eagle Bluff was especially great, we had a swim with turtles, dugongs, sharks and rays in the wild. Take the small track to the left as you head toward the viewing platform & the beach is yours alone. Amazing! Another tip for other travellers would be to know that the campground at Monkey Mia has been closed for restoration (the day before we arrived). Accommodation is only available at the RAC resort, the nearest camp ground is Denham which has several excellent facilities. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience with your company - and we will be booking with you again next year as we plan our trip to Broome & Cape Leveque regions. Kind regards,Dave Couri – Tighes Hill / NSW - Australia
Had not hired a proper 4WD for some time and rang Australian 4WD for some advice. Phone contact was excellent. Website excellent and gave me confidence to proceed. Vehicle pick up was without a hitch. Went with family and friends to Moreton Island camping for a week. Vehicle handled all situations with ease. All camping and cooking gear was supplied. Made the whole camping experience a breeze- Went over the story bridge and Toll is free. Great touch!.I would highly recommend to use Australian 4wd Hire. They reply to their phones. They reply to their emails and the genuinely try to help. Happy days!John Cavalerie – Paddington / QLD - Australia
Good day, The rental was excellent. We were able to travel around Australia, meeting the people and seeing your beautiful country. The vehicle was in excellent working condition. We camped in a different location for 15 nights. The upper tent was very easy to put together each night. It rained on us 3 nights and never a drop of water in the tent. We were so impressed. The fridge was perfect. Because we were able to 4 wheel drive we saw red kangaroos, emus, camels, rock formations, remote camp sites, dingos and many flowers. Having this vehicle was amazing. Thank you for providing this service. We will be returning to Australia and will contact you. Thank you again. Sincerely,Angela and David McKinney – Anchor Point / Alaska - USA
Hi Maryna, Thank you for organising the refund payment for the battery, it has been put back onto our credit card. We had a great trip from Darwin to Broome, and hiring a vehicle from your company was the right decision. The whole booking, payment, pick up and drop off process with Australian 4WD Hire was easy and the Bond was refunded quickly. We were very happy with our 4WD and would recommend your company to anybody. Kind regards,Barbara Marwick – Auckland / New Zealand
Dear Maryna,We have had a wonderful time. And will certainly leave a positive feedback! The upgrade due to the fact the original car was unavailable at the time , was superb, service, contact and info is very good and pleasant. Equipment the best we have had so far travelling around the globe!! Keep up this standard , we will advise Australian 4wd hire absolutely to our fellow travellers. Thank you for the prompt refund. Have a nice day! Kind regardsSandra Oudshoorn – Oudewater/ Netherlands
Thank you again for all the help, customer service couldn't have been better! Giving back the car at the end was the hardest part because I had considered just driving off into the sunset with it! It was perfect for my friend and I on our trip along the Gibb river road (our first Aussie off road adventure). I have some 4wd experience but she had very limited and being 2 girls traveling together we felt a lot safer knowing that we had a good 4wd that could get us out of anything. I would defiantly recommend your hire company to any one, and will hopefully have future hires with you for myself and my parents (who were fizzing with jealousy back in the UK)Vicki Henderson – Dunning / UK
As a Professional Photographer, in order to perform the task at hand and to travel to remote places I require the best quality gear to get the job done. I recently hired one of Australia 4WD Toyota Hilux's and drove nearly 3,000kms around remote areas of Western Australia. Not once did I question the reliability of the vehicle. With a modern interface and comfortable interior it was easy to enjoy the long distances we had to travel to get our shots. The large ute tray back allowed us to fit all the necessary camping and Photographic equipment in that we needed with tonnes of space left over. The fridge we had was efficient at keeping food and drinks cold and the pop up stove was sufficient enough to cook up most simple meals, tea or coffee we needed while on the road. The pop out tent on the roof of the Hilux took me roughly 4 minutes in total to assemble each night , and about the same amount of time to dismantle in the morning. We encountered strong winds, rain and heat on our trip and the tent held its own in each scenario. The length of the tent allows space to sleep two grown blokes 6ft + tall with room. The diesel model was fuel economic and the additional fuel can in the tray came in handy while on the road. I would recommend this company and its commitment to providing a quality vehicle at a respectable price. I will definitely be booking them again on my next Photographic adventure wherever that might be.Cieran Murphy – Perth / WA Australia
Hi Marina, thanks a lot for that quick respond and return of the Bond. I‘ve had a great time up in Cape York, was very happy to have a car in a shape that fitted to all my expectations (maybe even beyond). Very nice and professional people at Peters Garage in Cairns that knew what they talked about and what was necessary to go on a safe trip. I love to put a review on your Home Page and look forward to have a car on another occasion or will tell my friends to book at your company. Thanks again and have a good time. Kind regards.Adi Zollinger – Zurich / Switzerland
Thanks for processing the security bond so quickly. We had a fabulous trip and the Australian 4WD Hire Prado didn’t miss a beat. It was perfect for travelling around the Pilbara and Kimberly both on and off road. We did just over 10,500kms in 34 days. The Australian 4WD Hire staff were always available and helpful whenever we needed to contact them. Would recommend you guys to anyone thinking of doing a similar kind of road trip.Margaret Orr – Lynwood / WA Australia [wc_row][/wc_row]
Very surprised and happy with the vehicle outfit, I will be back for sure to re-hire.Dan Stephensen – Bungalow / QLD Australia
Overall we had a great trip, thank you for the prompt bond refund. The vehicle itself was very clean, and the equipment well maintained (if not new). Amber was great to deal with prior to pick up, and the booking process was very easy. We had a great time away and will consider hiring from you in the future.Sophie Baulch & Luke Jennings – Warrnambool / VIC Australia
“We had an awesome adventure and the Prado we hired from Australian 4WD handled well on the corrugated, dusty roads. Would recommend Australian 4WD to anyone heading to the top end”. Corey & Nicky Mitchell – Perth / WA Australia[wc_row][/wc_row]
Hi Maryna, thank you for returning our bond so promptly. We had a fantastic time and the 4WD went well. We just got back to Perth so as soon as we sort through all our mail, unpack and download all our holiday photos we will send you some of the amazing adventures we had in the Prado. Nicky ???? Thank you for your communication and the refund of our deposit, we had a very good trip. The vehicle performed well. Thank you for your help in getting out trip organized, we covered about 8000 k's, it was very interesting and enjoyable. Paul & Anne Gill – Hereford / Herefordshire UK[wc_row][/wc_row]
We were very happy with the 4WD supplied by Australian 4WD Hire. Low kilometres, everything in order and ready to go. It was more than capable in getting us to places that other rental agencies would not let their vehicles into. We saw some fantastic places. The camping equipment supplied was all in good order and having a 12 volt fridge with its own battery made a big difference to the quality of meals we cooked in remote places. The security bond refund was a breeze and there were no hidden charges. I would have no hesitation to use Australian 4WD Hire again for our next Australian outback road trip. Andrew – Brighton / QLD Australia[wc_row][/wc_row]
Hello Maryna. We would recommend the services of Australian 4WD based on our experience. The car was a very good fit for purpose and handled Gibb River Road with ease. Pre pick up info was excellent and answered just about every question we had. Pick up was efficient and staff were friendly and helpful. Return of vehicle was very easy and efficient. We had a wonderful problem free holiday so we go away as very happy travellers overall. Thanks for your valued contribution to our very enjoyable Kimberley holiday. Tony Waters – Kingscliff / NSW Australia
We had a lovely time touring a small section of the Kimberley, seeing the sights and enjoying the Prado we hired. We had a great trip, the Prado performed well and we were very happy with the camping equipment provided. Alison King – Karangi / NSW Australia

Thanks so much Australian 4WD Hire for helping us to have a fuss free holiday, clean & reliable 4WD with all the necessary camping equipment we required due to flying into Darwin. Also thanks for a very quick return of our bond money which was back in our account almost immediately without any issues. Very happy customer & would definitely recommend. Kerri & Jason Killin – Walloon / QLD Australia
I hired the Jeep Wrangler for a 5 day journey from Darwin to Kakadu to Litchfield and back. It was the perfect size for me and my gear and for where I was headed. The car was spotless when I picked it up with near new tyres and low kms. The local agent was very friendly, professional and made sure I was safely geared up with recovery equipment and answered all my questions. My only regret is not travelling for longer. Leeanne Ricci – Leichhardt / NSW Australia
"We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the Toyota Prado vehicle and quality of the camping gear presented to us upon pickup. The local agents were extremely helpful. The package we chose (4WD Bush Camper Large GT) was perfectly suited to our family camping holiday in the Kimberley region. Any email and phone queries were also handled very promptly by the Australian 4WD Hire Company."Jane Rogers – South Tammin / WA Australia
Great quality 4WD hire. Head office and Local agent were very easy to deal with and very helpful. We had fully kitted Bush Camper Canopy RTT latest model Hilux! I will definitely be going back to them in the future. I hired a Toyota Prado from Cairns using Australian 4WD Hire. I took 6 or us up to Iron Range in the far north for 9 days. The vehicle was brand new (1946km) and was amazing. We had a luggage bag on the roof leaving us with plenty of room inside. The vehicle was superb, The service from the head office and agent in Cairns was brilliant! It was returned a bit dirtier than when we picked it up! 🙂 Steve Potter – Blackwood / SA Australia
We needed to hire a 4x4 to drive The Gibb River Rd in The Kimberley. After doing our research we decided to grab a 2.8L turbo diesel Toyota Hilux from Australian 4WD Hire. The rig came kitted out with all the camping and 4x4 gear you could possibly need. Ours had all the bells and whistles, including a TJM awning and rooftop tent, camping chairs, table, stove, jerry cans, first aid kit, recovery kit and detailed Hema maps. To take on the corrugations it has an upgraded suspension system and all-terrain tyres. The trip went perfectly to plan and the car ran beautifully. We couldn't recommend Australian 4WD Hire highly enough. During 10 days we travelled all the way from Perth to Exmouth and back. A totally amazing trip. We rented a medium sized 4wd drive with a roof top tent from the Australian 4wd Hire company. The greatest feature of the car was of course the freedom - we were able to reach campsites that most people never reach. The car was fully equipped with everything we could ask for, and the service at both pick-up and return was very good. A personal and warm welcoming. To rent a car like this is really an exciting way to explore the outback of Australia. One of the big highlights was François Péron National park, not far away from Monkey Mia, the famous dolphin nest. The car was in very good condition and it was perfectly made for this kind of explorer trip. Just want to say that this was the second time we have hired a 4WD from you and both times we have had a fantastic time, first from Darwin and this time from Alice Springs. We found your company easy to deal with, reliable and the vehicles have been in excellent condition and well appointed. I would certainly recommend that anyone wishing to hire a 4WD in Australia, can do no better than to hire from your company, we will certainly be doing that again. Kind Regards, John and Christina Peebles - Lennox Head / NSW Australia
We had a fantastic time on our trip from Alice Springs to Uluru and exploring the National Parks around the area. We were able to cover 2500km in 10 days with the 4WD we hired from Australian 4WD Hire and couldn't complain about a thing. The staff were friendly and there was good support when we had to fix a few minor things up. Throughout the whole trip the car didn't miss a beat and it was well stocked with the stuff needed for camping. Would recommend the company to others. Chris Grime – Lake Munmorah / NSW Australia
Fantastic support from the company and staff before, during, and after the rental. Everything was well communicated and terms of the rental were made clear from the outset. If there is one improvement I could suggest, it's perhaps knowing the height of the car. The high 4WD and rooftop tent made me a bit paranoid of driving under some low awnings. But overall a highly recommended experience. Vincent Muller – Kelso / NSW Australia
Hi Maryna, just a quick email to say your company was a pleasure to deal with and the 4wd was awesome, well kitted out comfortable and reliable. We absolutely loved driving from Broome to Kununurra and the Gibb River Road back to Broome. Having a trustworthy vehicle gave us peace of mind and the fridge was an awesome bonus. Thanks again. Duane Washington – Yackandandah / VIC Australia
Dear All, I 'd like to share with you my great experience with a trip through Western Australia in 2016. That was a month of a great exploration and great time. This was also because of having a great car J. Let me say that there is always a question which rental company one should choose and trust. And I must say that "Australian 4WD Hire" is the best choice. That was my second time I got the car from them and that was my second time I was absolutely satisfied. Me and my boyfriend decided to rent Toyota Landcruiser with the roof top tent so that we could get anywhere we wanted to, and sleep anywhere we wanted to, as well J. That was a great fun! (see the photos). Moreover, you also get anything you need for outdoor camping f.ex. fridge, water tank, table, chairs, compressor. So it's really worth the price. We did an amazing drive from Perth to the south of WA along the coast, through Margaret River, Albany, then Bremer Bay, Cape Le Grand, and then we turned north to Menzies and Kookynie and went back to the West coast driving 4x4 track to SandStone, then going through Mount Magnet, Geraldton, and Lancelin back to Perth. That was a time of adventure, wilderness and pure nature. And whenever we needed support from "Australian 4WD Hire", we got it. Even when there was one problem with a car alternator during our drive (sometimes it happens and one can do anything about it), we got immediate help, we had a new part arranged and we had instant help on the phone. One call was enough to be taken care of. And I was really impressed with that. So, any reason to complain and so many reasons to be happy . Try it! You won't regret! . Wish you a great time in Aussie!Anita Werner / Poland[wc_row][wc_column size="one-fourth" position="first"][/wc_column][wc_column size="one-fourth"][/wc_column][wc_column size="one-fourth"][/wc_column][wc_column size="one-fourth" position="last"][/wc_column][/wc_row][wc_row][wc_column size="one-fourth" position="first"][/wc_column][wc_column size="one-fourth"][/wc_column][wc_column size="one-fourth"][/wc_column][wc_column size="one-fourth" position="last"][/wc_column][/wc_row]
This is our second trip to Western Australia and we hired a car from Australian 4WD for both trips. In fact, our first trip with the 4WD was so fun and amazing, that we decided to take another trip the next year and use the same car company.
We have nothing but excellent things to say about the car: its quality and dependability are unparalleled and everyone was so friendly and professional during the hiring process! We also very much appreciated that the car included supplemental equipment for camping such as chairs, a table, etc. It really helped make our trip so much smoother. We also loved the sound system in the car and how well it ran and handled 4WD. It really is a high quality vehicle.
The 4WD definitely made our trip magical and we would not hesitate to hire from the company again!!Dan Smith / USA
Our 2 month exploration of the centre of Australia was a great success largely because your fully equipped Toyota Hi-Lux was the ideal vehicle for our adventure. Starting and returning to Melbourne we managed to visit most of the famous places in the Northern Territory, the Kimberley's and in the Flinders Ranges and camped in everything from wilderness camp sites with no facilities whatever to the well-appointed campsites in Alec Springs, Cape Leveque and Wilpena. We also travelled on all sort of roads including the Gibb River Road, the Tanami Road and the Oodnadatta Track all of which the Toyota handled with ease. The car was in perfect condition and the tyres likewise and apart from a bolt shaking free on the engine protection plate, which was easily replaced, everything worked perfectly. We had no tyre problems at all and the fuel consumption was remarkably low. We travelled from Halls Creek to Alice Springs on a single tank of fuel. We especially appreciated the fact that you were prepared to service the vehicle in Broome half way through our trip and would like to thank Brendan for his friendly and professional help when we picked up and returned the car and Vitali and the staff in Queensland who were equally helpful. With kind regards, Alec Broers / Rhode Island - US [wc_row][wc_column size="one-half" position="first"] [/wc_column][wc_column size="one-half" position="last"] [/wc_column][/wc_row]
